Studying in Rome
Rome, the eternal city: international and magnificent with its streets and its monuments, its piazzas and its fountains.
Rome, the home of Cinecittà, social relations and cultural events; a strategic cultural focus of indisputable prestige, also in the areas of the visual arts and of artistic and cultural production: cinema, music, theatre, fashion, the performing arts, video production, publishing and advertising.
Ph. Andrada Predescu, Antonio Cama, Giorgio Taraschi
Rome, the tourist destination, supported by a thriving community of small and medium-sized enterprises providing services for leisure and entertainment, as well as craft workshops and manufacturing concerns: food design, wellness design, mobility design…
The people who make these hybrid production scenarios function have new requirements and need unconventional professional staff with interdisciplinary expertise, people with a strong design culture orientation.
Ph. Francesco D'Alonzo
It was to cater for these requirements that the Istituto Europeo di Designopened its first venue in Rome in 1973.
The school’s bond with the local economic fabric is very close indeed: all the courses are designed to teach across the board, making the most of the city’s natural international vocation, and are also shaped to cater for what local production really requires.
This close relationship with the business community combines with a packed calendar of events, organised both in-house and in the city and its hinterland, to consolidate the impact exerted by IED on Rome’s economic and institutional networks, while at the same time constituting an undeniable lure for that part of the international market that is already attracted by the capital city.
