Autostyle 2008

Emre Husmen, 22 years old, a student at IED Turin has been awarded as many as two prizes in the prestigious Autostyle design competition organised by Berman S.p.A. a leader in automobile component manufacture.

Autostyle was born five years ago thanks to an idea of Roberto Artioli’s, Sole Managing Director of Berman and Fulvio Cinti, the Director of the Auto & Design magazine, that aimed to set up a collaboration with the Design Academies and develop an exchange with young designers on issues such as personalisation and special versions of motorcars.

Husmen, in addition to receiving the creativity award, assigned by the magazine Auto&Design, has also received the special spectator’s price for having presented the most easily achievable project with a special version of the Alfa Romeo MiTO.

A dream car for the future

From the 19th of September the Dream exhibition will be open to the public: a journey among dream and concept cars designed by Car Manufacturers, Style Centres and Freelance Design workshops in the Turin area from the Fifties to the present day.

The exhibition, first suggested by the Turin Automobile Museum, next to the great names in Italian car design, will also feature three projects created by IED students.

- BeON Emotional Hybrid, full scale model projected by students of the IV edition Master RSP in Transportation Design – Work Experience a.y. 05/06;

- BMW ZX6, thesis project realized in collaboration with BMW by Jai-Ho Yoo e Lukas Vanek, three year post-diploma Transportation Design – Car Design course students. ZX6 has been chosen by Organizing Committee as leading image of the exhibition;

- FIAT PANDA winner project of “Best Italian Design per il Brand FIAT” in the contest “ Design The Italian Way ” (2007) realized by Danilo Tosetti, Luca Seren Gay, Enrico Vercelli, third year students of three year post-diploma Transportation Design – Car Design course.

The BMW of 2015

An outstanding trademark and an exciting challenge: this year the III year students of the Three Year post-high school Transportation Design – car design Course (a. y. 2007-2008) of the IED of Turin were faced with a new challenge launched by BMW, whose philosophy, always aiming at combining aesthetics research for innovative designs with the best technologies, impresses people all over the world.

Designing the BMW of 2015, interpreting the language evolution and the trademark essence, in view of the company’s future perspectives: this was the thesis objective involving students, for the first phase of the project, in the research of a product and a style projected towards the future, for their subsequent application to actual scenarios of a close tomorrow.

The 35 students involved were subdivided into 18 teams, all coordinated by Fulvio Fantolino, Coordinator of the Transportation Design – car design Course and owner of F&F Design Studio. Students were also followed throughout the internal stages of project development by a BMW Commission including Thomas Plath, Director Model Techniques and Process Management, and Anders Warming, BMW Exterior Design Director, under the supervision of Chris Bangle, Chief of Design for BMW Group.

The proposals elaborated by all student teams were later evaluated with the selection of 12, out of which 8 were developed in 1:4 models, in collaboration with Cecomp, and the remaining 4 turned into virtual models.

Models will be displayed at the IED of Turin, in Via S. Quintino 39, within the “Apriti IED” event, until the end of September 2008 (visiting hours: 09:00 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 18:00). Admission is free .
