Florence
Florence is the focal point of the Italian renaissance and home to an incredible cultural, artistic and architectural patrimony. These proud traditions are still part of the economic and creative fabric and are a fundamental component of the curriculum. IED Florence aspires to become the school for the high technologyand craftsmanship offering training courses aimed to integrate the artisan knowledge with new technologies: a mix of “hand made” and innovation.
After three years of work in this city and its hinterland to its credit, IED Florence is now moving into the spaces vacated by the Florence Savings Bank Foundation in via Bufalini, 6r. The building’s total of 2,400 square metres comprises 14 lecture theatres, four computer/design workshops, one library, one 3D press centre, two exhibition spaces, one 140 square meter conference room, offices and study facilities.
In future, the new campus will also be home of the first “3D library” in Florence dedicated to “Design by Florentine and Italian artists”, whose dual purpose is to build a collection of the objects that have made Italy and Florence famous all over the world and so inspire and help students, especially those coming from abroad, to understand just what this term “Made in Italy” means.
