Daily showcase of world young creatives who compete to win 4 IED international scholarship for its undergraduate courses for the 2012-2013 school year for studies in Madrid.

INTERIOR DESIGN, PRODUCT DESIGN, GRAPHIC DESIGN and FASHION DESIGN.

This competition is open to young international students. IED rewards to the creative talents of young people aged between 18 and 28 years with an undergraduate course in its schools of Design, Fashion, Visual Communication and Management.

IED calls young creatives to develop ideas and projects inspired by MY COUNTRY: how can we contribute to global innovation?

The starting point is the student’s country, with its people, language, history, nature, traditions, habits. The students have to propose some new ideas linking between the spirit of their country and innovation, tradition and new ideas, local experiences and global needs: they will have to give innovative suggestions in order to enhance the best characteristics, creations, which can be found in their countries, and to present them to an international audience.  Design and Visual Communication will be the main tools to realize that purpose, with different results depending on the program of choice, since a briefing has been defined for each area of studies.  Use your imagination!

The projects and images selected will be published on the site www.creativediary.net and can receive ratings, comments and still be sponsored by internet users through their  facebook newsfeed.

Entries may be sent by e-mail. A jury of experts will award scholarships to best works. The deadline for submitting projects is the 2nd of May 2012, 23.59 (Italian time).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzqejNeKyXU

The IED Madrid school of design has opened admissions for the Masters of Design and Innovation 2012.

These four Master’s programs, conceived as research laboratories, prepare professionals to overcome the challenges of a global, interconnected market through the perspective of “New Visions, New Leaders.

Directed by major figures in the industry, these Masters are the most advanced level of training offered at the IED Madrid in the areas of design, communications, concepts and strategies:

In a scenario such as the present day, “changing, full of uncertainties, but also full of opportunities, new values are discernible that, inevitably, are going to be at the forefront of all activities carried out in the new social context. Among these, I would like to highlight innovation as an overall value and a new way of doing, relating, and focusing on problems and their solutions, which we could call transversal knowledge,” commented Carlos Barrabés, Director of the Master of Strategic Design Labs. In this sense, the Masters of Design and Innovation establish an ideal framework for reinforcing divergent thinking and transversal skills in our students, as well as analyzing present-day design from different perspectives.

In order to achieve these established objectives, the classes are bilingual (English-Spanish) and the academics are far from traditional methods: a major component involves international trips and visits to design studios, fairs, educational institutions, museums, companies and research centers, workshops, exclusive conferences, cultural and technical seminars, classes and tutorials with major figures and thinkers in the world of design and innovation; as well as collaborations with leading companies and a productive interaction among students from the four academic programs (students come from a variety of different countries).

Contact with different cultures, landscapes, customs and lifestyles is essential for students to develop their full potential and reinforce divergent thinking, far from the norm – innovative and extraordinary. Definitively, this is a unique personal experience and a decisive investment in your professional future.

Whoever lives in or visits Madrid is sure to discover a vital, luminous city open to the world, an epicenter of cultures, leisure and art, thanks to the numerous theaters, cinemas and museums. The character of the Spanish people, closely connected with “living in the street,” provides a rich incentive for enjoying the city’s activities and events, to establish contacts and personal and professional synergies.

Madrid has become an international benchmark for good practices relating to the global city. MadridDesignNet will be on show at the Madrid Pavilion of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai between 9 and 17 October.

IED Madrid, institutional partner of the Madrid Pavilion at the Expo 2010 Shanghai, is to showcase MadridDesignNet on 11 October, the on-line platform created by young designers from around the world (1,000 students from 17 different cities), all united by the simple goal of innovating and generating creative ideas and proposals on the Spanish capital under the Expo theme of Better City, Better Life.

Thanks to its very structure, the network has effectively become a hub for both culture and the economy, an open meeting point geared towards modernisation and modern times via creativity, while encouraging new models of learning and cross-collaboration among professionals from different disciplines.

Madrid, the only Spanish or Latin American city to have its own pavilion, and the only one to feature two elements, namely the Bamboo House and the Air Tree (both replicas based on buildings already constructed in Madrid), will showcase, as part of its programme of professional and business activities, the 20 best ideas selected from no fewer than 1,000 proposals on how to improve urban life within the city created over months of work at MadridDesignNet. The 20 selected projects are prime examples of innovation at work, and are set to become reference points for work and research on urban transformation and social housing policies, both of which take on crucial importance in highly dynamic countries such as China. Madrid’s involvement in hosting and presenting the MadridDesignNet network confirms the city’s unflinching commitment to the future of design on the international stage.

With this in mind, Madrid’s programme of activities, which will run from 9 to 17 October, will include not only exhibitions at both the Bamboo House and the Air Tree (of which we would highlight a video on the on-line universe shaped from the visions of hundreds of young people, and a system that enables users to find out, in real time, all the open events that a given city is offering), but also workshops intended for Chinese businessmen and businesswomen, and Spanish companies with business concerns in China.

The MadridDesignNet programming will also include the conference Innovation and Technology in Developing the Cities of Tomorrow, which will be held on 13 October at the prestigious Tongji University of Shanghai.

The Madrid Pavilion, which will soon reach the impressive milestone of 4 million visitors, and which has already received more than 300 high-profile visits from prominent figures (academics, businessmen and businesswomen, urban planners, economists and politicians), will remain in Shanghai as a lasting legacy of the Spanish capital following the end of the Expo.

Scholarships are to be distributed among the four IED schools: Fashion, Design, Visual Arts and Communication. Students between 20 and 45 years old can participate to the competition. There are two kinds of programs:

First Level Master where candidates must have a Bachelor degree or a specialized three year diploma in any disciplinary area. For the Second Level Master Programs (professional and research) the student needs a bachelor degree or a specialized three year diploma in fashion, design, communication, visual arts or management and a portfolio for programs related to design.

There are four design ideas to be developed, one for each school. The selection theme is: “My City”. IED calls creatives to develop ideas and projects describing ‘your city’: this can be the city where you were born, a city that you visited and that became your ideal one, the city from where your family originally comes, the city where you would like to live or have lived, the city that constitutes for you a symbol of historical, artistic and cultural development and human achievement, the city of the future, where all the human beings will live in freedom or even the city of your dreams, a place that you can create with your imagination.

The projects and images selected will be published on the site http://creativediary.net/ and can receive ratings, comments and still be sponsored by internet users through their facebook newsfeed.
The deadline for submitting projects is September 13th, 2010.
