A nomination for the Oscar for Enrico Casarosa

" Now it’s me on the moon": this is the comment of Enrico Casarosa - Italian nominee to the Academy Awards among the new animation talents – on the nomination for the short movie “La luna” (The moon).

Enrico - forty years old - was born in Genoa, and studied Illustration at IED Milan in the early 90s. Then he moved to New York where he attended the School of Visual Arts and Illustration of the Fashion Institute of Technology.

He joined Pixar in 2001 as story artist. He began working on the projects of Cars, Ratatouille, Up, and then he was the first Italian director of the animation major founded by Steve Job. With his debut he hit the mark. Today, La Luna has been included in the shortlist of the five short movies nominated by the Academy and it will be screen in 2012 before the new movie Brave by Pixar/Disney of which he is also one of the co-workers. The release in Italy is expected on  5th September (on 22nd June in the U.S.A.).

"La Luna is a deeply personal story for me that takes inspiration from my childhood,  and to have it recognized by the Academy is an honour both profound and exhilarating”, said the director. The short movie tells the story of a young boy who, with his Papa and Grandpa, goes for the first time out to the sea in a wooden boat. The young boy is enchanted by the moon that rise on the mirror of the water rippled by the waves. The story leads the audience to discover his family's most unusual line of work - a bit mythical and magic – carried out by generations.
