Professional Profile: Illustrator, Animation Designer

Description
  • The course of Illustration forms professional artists, an illustrator capable of translating into images, both concepts and ideas, able to create new languages, to invent new ways of using them, and to find links between the various forms of visual expression. He / she is a professional figure capable of analyzing and applying the creative processes and his own graphic interpretation to communicate by signs and images, going as far as using new technologically experimental techniques from the modern multimedia area, including his / her own areas of discovery and research in the field of modern visual communication.

The first year of the course of Illustration is concerned mainly with the skills needed in the practice of designing: in the fundamental phase, the student must understand the concept of a “natural” design, freeing himself from all the technical and scientific structures. The student must learn the techniques of static design, in order to understand the reality around him in its various visual forms, and of moving design, to understand the actions, the dynamics of gestures and the structure of the subjects, and finding his own style through the study of techniques and ways of expression, from the printed page to the web.
The second year concentrates on the methodology and on assisted project design. This phase of the course has as its objective that of favoring the development of the creative component, in order to bring out the personality and the distinctive qualities of the student, through the discovery of a strong personal character, identifiable and original. At the same time that the image is being studied, also the graphic composition is studied. The editorial areas which are discussed are: realistic illustrations for scholastic and illustrative publications, interpretive illustration for narratives, advertising, and in general, the communication of concepts and ideas, children’s illustrations and comics.
During the second year the course deals with advanced design in a simulated professional environment with complex cultural parameters. The student of the course of Illustration must therefore become specifically acquainted with the area of communication in which the designed image must collocate, deepening his knowledge of the details of the social-cultural processes tied to the disclosure and fruition of the image, aside from being fully able to read the historic-critical themes of contemporary visual languages.
During the third year one works on advanced project design and professional simulation, confronting actual design projects as would a professional from the various sectors. The thesis project for the course of Illustration is a project both complex and articulated, in which the student can choose to develop a theme tied to illustrations destined for visual communication or to a more general narrative use.
The course is accredited by MIUR as an Academic Diploma of the First Level.
