The Product Designer is concerned with the creation and design of products for industry. This professional is capable of initiating the process of innovation in all of its facets: creative, esthetic, social and technological. With subjects like human sciences, plastic expression, aesthetic languages, and ecodesign in the curriculum, the students of the Product Design programme are prepared to understand the consumer market needs and develop pieces aligned with the international directives on environmental preservation and sustainability.

Program
Aligning aesthetics, efficiency, and sustainability is a current challenge for designers in the development of a new product. The solution to this equation requires solid professional background in product design and planning with an interdisciplinary vision. These skills ared worked with the pedagogic model of the Product Design programme of IED São Paulo's Design School.
With subjects like human sciences, plastic expression, aesthetic languages, and ecodesign in the curriculum, the students of the Product Design programme are prepared to understand the consumer market needs and develop pieces aligned with the international directives on environmental preservation and sustainability. Creativity and technical knowledge are no longer enough when it comes to designing a piece. Students need to know about the use of renewable energies and present solutions to minimize the emission of pollutants and residues, taking the service life of the product into consideration, and thinking of the rational use of water, power, and natural resources.
Professional Profile
The Product Designer is a multidisciplinary professional. He/she must be capable of teamworking and be skilled in other areas of knowledge, such as the psychology of consumers and marketing. This professional will create products of great visual impact, with attention to colors, materials, finishing, technical and aesthetic details, and sustainability aspects. These products must generate a positive and warm impact in buyers. This professional designs from lamps to pieces of furniture, from helmets to motorcycles.
His role is in fact, that of understanding and foreseeing the needs of the market, put them into the context of the organization and translate them into a concrete project for eventual production on an industrial scale. His design culture must be vast, covering theoretical aspects as well as specific technical aspects of the project.
The Product Designer must be aware of global trends in consumers’ preferences and keep up with the evolution of styles. Upon the elaboration of a project, this professional must understand and interpret the requirements and expectations of a client. However, creativity and freedom of expression must also have room in the creation process.
