The aim of the Master course in Advanced Design for Transportation is to teach designers how to navigate in the future, to evaluate new possible scenarios and to transform them into sustainable design solutions. In recent years we have witnessed radical changes in the transportation industry, primarily due to negative issues such as traffic congestion, pollution, safety, and our current economical crisis which is completely transforming the face of the global automotive industry. Given this situation it is no longer possible to disregard the new opportunities provided by design.

Target

Admission to the Master course is restricted to graduates from IED and degree holders in fields of Industrial and Transportation Design or to professionals with experience in the field.

Students of the Master course in Advanced Design for Transportation will acquire the various techniques of two and three-dimensional drawing, with particular focus on software tools such as Alias Wavefront and Bunkspeed and will also learn to use the various technologies to test their ideas, exploiting the use of virtual reality in order to come up with highly innovative design solutions.

Students of the Master course in Advanced Design for Transportation will be required to evaluate new needs that clients will be expressing 10, 20, even 50 years from now, extracted from the analyses presented by famous futurists, scientists, technologists, sociologists, psychologists, even science fiction experts which will be contributing to the open-ended Master. They will learn how to qualify their proposals in constantly changing scenarios, establishing trends which will generate concepts for sustainable mobility in the future. This advanced design process must be an integral part of every transportation design studio across the globe. Some companies have been using it for years, some are beginning now.

Teacher of Robotics at Politecnico of Torino, where he graduated in electrotechnics engineering in 1971.

At the moment he’s President of the Prototype Centre of Politecnico di Torino and coordinates the Master Course in “Ingegneria Meccatronica”.

He is member of the Board of Directors of the “Associazione Robotica Piemonte” (ARP).

His scientific interests go from autonomous mobile robotics for space and logistic employments to modelling. Married, two children, he loves high quality cinema and science fiction.

Industrial Designer; he collaborates with the Research Centre of Istituto Europeo di Design, where he develops his interest for research, ranging from designing packaging to the concept design in the automotive field; he continues his path as researcher in the bionics field for “Design Innovation”, where he coordinates the concept design projects.

With Monica Ferrigno he created the “Ildoppiosegno”, agency of product research and design.

He teaches at IED in Milano and Madrid and gives bionics lessons at the Technological Institute of Aragon, Saragozza.

He’s also following a project for a electrical vehicle at the “Scuola Politecnica di Design” for Bixy.

He partecipate in “BIOMA”, an International meeting of bionics and design at the University of Aveiro.

He deals with research and didactics in the field of designing background, strategies, methods and tools for sustainability of products, services and systems.

He teaches at “Politecnico di Milano” in the corse of “Design for environmental sustainability” and “System Design for Sustainability”; he’s director of the research unity “Design and Innovation of system for sustainability” (DIS, INDACO Department).

He coordinates the International net “Learning Network on Sustainability” (LeNS, www.lens.polimi.it) for the development of “curricula” on Design for sustainability, focused on the innovation of “product-service-system, financed by “Programma Asia Link”, European Commission.

He studied at Istituto Europeo di Design in Milano.

He collaborated with the architects: Giotto Stoppino, Adalberto Dal Lago, Giulio Crespi, Renzo Piano.

In the applied research field he developed the bionics methodology oriented to the design of innovative product.

He’s Director of Research and Development of the IED group. He founded and directed, from 1982 to 1998, the IED Research Centre.

He developed projects of research and design of product for: Fiat Auto, Centro Ricerche Fiat, Du Pont de Nemours, Gillette Co., Pirelli Artigo, La Magona D’Italia, Montedipe, EP. Gruppo VLM, Lego Futura, Lear Co., Johnson Controls, Hunday Motors, 3M, etc…

He directed strategic plans for design integrated to the development of compagnie for governments and spanish, austrian, columbian, canarian and galician entities.

He founded “Design Innovation” in Milano in 1998 where he direct research lab, product design and innovative processes.

He was teacher in the Industrial Design course at Politecnico di Milano and at the Istituto Europeo di Design of Madrid.

Now he teaches at the University of Montreal (Canada), Faculté de l’Aménagement Ecole de Design Industriel.

He is also consultant for: Fiat Auto Spa, CRF - Centro Ricerche Fiat, Piaggio & C. He’s currently collaborating with Fiat Styling Centre.

Born 1974, designer, Art Director, 2000 IED Turin Degree, 1998-2001 at Pininfarina; chief designer, co-founder and associate partner at Synth Automotive (Strategic Transportation Design Consultancy for Honda, Lancia, Ferrari, Pininfarina and others; creative studios and workshops in Italy and Germany) and Kaniewski Haute Design (Industrial Design Studio and a luxurious boutique with own furniture, glass, leather collections in downtown Warsaw, Poland). Ranked by Forbes as the 2nd most innovative business personality in Poland.
Since 2000 teacher and professional trainer through a number of lectures in world’s best Universities of art and design: Royal College of Art in London, Istituto Europeo di Design in Turin, Supervisor at RCA PhD programs. Numerous prizes (2008 Honorable Mention for the Career; 2009 Head of Jury Machina Design Award Rdzen, 2009 Recommendation Noble Concierge), publications and exhibitions.
Owns a full-size piano but not a TV set, drives an old blue Mercedes. Since 2007 happyfully in love.

In 2005 he was illustrator for the project “FIAT 500 story” and in the academic year 2005/06 he was tutor in the master course in Transportation Design at IED Turin, for the project “Lancia HAIZEA”.

From 2006 to 2008 he teached sketching in IED post diploma courses.

Besides he is designer in the realization of 2D sketching and 3D models, clay models and automotive vehicles for Inovo Design.

Milano, nowadays he coordinates the RSP Master of Industrial Design for Sport and the BSP Bachelor of

Industrial Design at Istituto Europeo di Design IED Torino. Apart from the designing activity, he is a

design and territory strategic consultant for Regione Piemonte and Camera di Commercio di

Torino. In the last 10 years has had the chance to spend one year at Glasgow School of art, do a

workshop with the dutch based Droog Design and collaborate for 6 months with Llievore Altherr

Molina Studio in Barcelona."
