IED Design is the school’s concrete and complete response to the countless and diversified requirements of the professional design community.
These days, design is a crucial constituent in every area of production, contributing contents, lexica, codes of expression and of form and technical and functional aspects.
Street furnishings, fashion accessories, automobiles and IT hardware are just some of the fields where appreciation of the value of design has shot up in recent years.
The designer is by definition an innovator of forms and functions, an interpreter and at the same time a precursor of emerging aesthetic lines and of contemporary functional requirements.
The courses at IED Design are tailored to develop these gifts, while at the same time favouring the acquisition of extensive technical and design skills in the course of workshops and numerous active partnerships with leading industrial concerns
IED Design school in Venice, Certosa campus
A campus in the middle of the sea, yet only a few hundred metres from one of the world’s liveliest and best known centres of history, art and culture. The city opposite and nature all around: the island of Certosa (Charterhouse) is situated in the centre of the Lagoon, between the city, the Lido and Murano.
On this island, the Vento di Venezia Nautical Hub has launched an economic and cultural rejuvenation programme, in which IED is acting as a full partner, contributing to bring about an original, experimental reinterpretation of Venetian traditions.
The courses available here are based on the syntheses achieved by factoring IED into Venice and its traditions, relating closely to the shipyard industry, glass craftsmanship, the cinema, fashion and art.
So the Certosa campus, which houses all four schools in the system, is an experimental centre that offers Masters and advanced training courses, seminars and workshops to a heterogeneous public: university students, practising professionals, business concerns and, in general, everyone who wants to learn more about certain topics in the cultural sphere.
“The market gardener’s house” is a completely renovated structure that houses the lecture theatres, located in a garden and equipped with a network server and Internet connectivity. The IT workshops and classrooms are located in the nearby “Valeria” building.
The island has a restaurant with an agreement with IED, a yachting harbour with moorings for about 100 vessels and a shipyard. For students who want to discover the experience of campus life with their peers, there are ten double and single rooms available.
