Through this course you will familiarise with the various techniques involved in the production of the silk, the main fabric of the Como district. During the 5 encounters foreseen, you will learn about the process of manufacturing silk, its applications, the most contemporary uses of this material, its potential and its history.

The story of silk is a worldwide legend that originates from a cocoon and becomes a successful product, which still today represents a material with immense potential and futuristic application keys.

The structural techniques, technical treatments, dyes, finishing tools and colorimetry make it an ever new and contemporary material that adapts to different uses, not only applied to the fashion and home but to an artistic research as well. You will discover the entire process by which a fabric is produced ( structural techniques, technological treatments, finishing tools, dyes ) and the uses can be made of it.
Lessons will be held at the Silk Museum in Como, where tools that made the history of fabric realisation and printing will be seen.

The course will be complemented by a collection of pre-recorded video lessons with IED faculty and IED Alumni on the key disciplines of creativity: fashion, interior, product and graphic design, and a selection of cross-disciplinary subjects.
The videos are designed to help you build a foundation in the creative fields, or to widen and develop your knowledge in different areas of creativity, in a self-paced learning.
