Designing spaces and services with a strong emotional impact: this is what you are going to learn on the Interior Design degree programme at IED Milano

The role of the Interior Designer is increasingly important in our society today. Indeed, Interior Designers are all-rounders with full knowledge of sustainable projects, delivering practical solutions to suit open spaces where human emotions come into play.

You will be working with key elements like air, temperature, comfort, sustainable materials, and lighting. Your aim will be to create a place to convey emotional and physical well-being and comfort, with services that can provide people with a personal and unique experience.

What does really make our degree programme stand out is a typical lab-based approach. This kind of method will help you understand how style, materials and aesthetics can have a significant impact on every project you are involved in.

As you progress along your training, you will get a real start in shaping your future as a designer of new or existing public and private spaces, in such industries as hospitality, wellness and leisure.

After the course, a First Level Academic Diploma is issued. It is recognised by MUR - Italian Ministry of University and Research - and has the same legal value of a Bachelor’s Degree.

Information to decide

This programme brings you into the world of Interior Design with cross-cutting skills and a special focus on project design techniques across a variety of fields

Over the three years, you will go deeper into learning about disciplines closely connected with Interior Design such as architecture, art, sociology and anthropology. You will develop expertise in the area of marketing, which is a key part of understanding brand values and market positioning of companies. You will also learn how to spot new trends and shifts in consumer patterns.

The main purpose of this programme is to provide you with a project-oriented strategic mindset based on ethical, social and sustainable thinking. As such, you will be able to communicate your work and ideas clearly, on a graphical level and also with solid, consistent storytelling. This learning is based on a human-centred approach to all of the steps involved in a project. The focus is also on providing creative solutions to meet the needs of all the people who will experience the spaces resulting from your creation.

This programme has been designed for students who want to explore new spaces and understand how they interact with the people who live in them. Our aim is to train up future project designers who can imagine new environments where customers and brand values are consistently at the core.

The strong lab-based and vocational focus of this programme will help you make direct contact with some of the most important companies in the industry. Over the three years, you will explore many different career opportunities that are not just restricted to interior design, but also cover other roles such as Exhibit Designer, Retail Designer and Service Designer.

You are about to enjoy an unparalleled learning experience: The city of Milan stands historically as the Italian capital of Design, the place where this industry still continues to achieve great innovative results. Every year you will experience here the most prominent international events and tradeshows in the industry, among them the Salone del Mobile, which is a great opportunity for you to stand as a key player.

This programme will give you the opportunity to develop strong project design skills. But most importantly, you will acquire a broad technical and practical basis as you learn to work with the typical software tools used for developing projects (2d-3d modelling and rendering) and for presenting them with accurate graphics and consistent storytelling content.

Last but not least, the Interior Design degree programme at IED Milano keeps a close eye on all market trends and developments. Within the current market scenario, students need to be more flexible, learning to work independently and with greater confidence as they get ready to move into their future career.
