How can a Fashion Designer take a leading role in rethinking models, processes and responsibilities within an industry called to transform?
The fashion system is currently facing a profound transformation, driven by the need to reduce environmental impact and to rethink the production and cultural models that shape its processes. In this context, sustainability is no longer an optional choice, but a fundamental competence for those designing garments and collections. The Fashion Designer therefore assumes a central role in combining creativity, responsibility and awareness throughout the entire supply chain.
The First Level Master in Fashion Design at IED Roma is designed to train Designers capable of rethinking fashion projects through a sustainable perspective, enhancing tailoring skills while integrating them with a contemporary and responsible vision. The programme guides students in developing collections that take into account time, resources, materials and production processes, promoting a design approach focused on circularity and waste reduction.
Throughout the Master, students acquire a solid design methodology that combines hands-on laboratory practice, theoretical insights and cultural reflection. Significant attention is dedicated to the study of sustainable materials, innovative production processes and the dynamics connecting nature, business and the creative industry, also through direct engagement with designers and professionals active in the field of responsible fashion.
The programme has a strong laboratory-based structure and is articulated through three main design experiences dedicated to Couture, Menswear and Women’s Ready-to-Wear. Students work on the development of complete collections, experimenting with advanced pattern-making, fashion drawing and creative research, with the aim of combining tailoring, innovation and ethical design principles. The Master concludes with the creation of a final collection as a Thesis Project and with a curricular internship, to be carried out in external organisations or within IED in the form of a field project.
The Master prepares professional figures capable of entering the fashion sector with a responsible and change-oriented vision. Upon completion of the programme, graduates may work as Fashion Designers within brands and companies, or take on roles related to product development, sustainability consultancy, textile research and corporate social responsibility, contributing to the evolution of the contemporary fashion industry.
