The Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design at IED Roma is based on a vision sensitive to urban and cultural contexts, making environmental sustainability, social responsibility and design thinking central to its methodology. Design becomes a tool to trigger processes of regeneration, narration and meaning-making.

The programme is enriched by an international schedule of workshops and lectures with guest studios and designers, encouraging critical reflection on the role of public and collective space in the transformation of the contemporary city.

Course structure and contents:

The IED programme spans three years, during which design is integrated with cultural knowledge, dialogue with professionals, technical skills and innovative tools.

First Year: Builds methodological, design and technical foundations. Space analysis and representation are explored with manual and digital tools through practical exercises. Students learn graphic software, are introduced to AutoCAD and materials, and study theoretical subjects such as design history, contemporary art and visual perception.

Second Year: Focuses on complex spaces such as commercial and hospitality environments, enhancing the ability to analyse volumes, light, materials and colours. 3D modelling is introduced with software such as Rhinoceros, 3D Studio and V-Ray, alongside rapid prototyping tools and emerging technologies linked to artificial intelligence. Theoretical subjects deepen the historical, cultural and sociological contexts of design. Workshops and interdisciplinary activities consolidate a broad and articulated design vision.

Third Year: Students achieve progressive autonomy in design, tackling the complete definition of a domestic space. Technological, infrastructural and interior decoration aspects are explored, alongside photorealistic representation techniques and immersive environments. The final semester is dedicated to the thesis, based on personal or corporate briefs, developed individually or in groups.
