Discover your own style and personality, blending craftsmanship and new technology: that’s what our Interior Design degree programme at IED Firenze is all about

The new-generation Interior Designer is a skilled professional always looking for ways to perfectly match multiple elements such as colours, volumes, materials, surfaces, lights and spaces. Over the three-year Interior Design programme at IED Firenze you will be provided with the tools to design innovative interiors that tell a story and create relationships between people and the surrounding environment.

Whether it is residential or public locations, workplaces, hospitality, food service or sales/retail areas, you will have the opportunity to experiment with your ideas and find new concepts of a dynamic living. You will be able to carefully select and use the best solutions for each different environment and space.

This multidisciplinary programme will give you an insight into how the market has reshaped the job of the Interior Designer. This role requires a know-how covering both architectural layout design and service project management skills, to make sure that space and people can interact with each other in the best possible way. All this becomes even more visible on the occasion of the Special Week, the event where students have the opportunity to exchange views with leading companies and professionals, thinking about projects to be developed together.

After the course, a First Level Academic Diploma is issued. It is recognised by MUR - Italian Ministry of University and Research - and has the same legal value of a Bachelor’s Degree.

Information to decide

Never stop asking about how to achieve the best synthesis between colours, volumes, materials, surfaces, lights and spaces

The three-year Interior Design degree programme at IED Firenze will allow you to develop a wide range of cultural, technical and project-oriented skills. Indeed, we strongly believe that the key word that should inspire contemporary interior designers is contaminations. Now more than ever, there is a need to understand and bring together as many disciplines as possible: designers need to contaminate and be contaminated by their knowledge of art, architecture, design, sociology and marketing.

The curriculum is based on practising and using all the knowledge gained through individual or group projects developed with different partners both locally and internationally. These include agencies, firms, institutions and non-profit organizations, all of them allowing you to consistently apply your skills to the cultural and industrial system.

Our method, which is based on a balance between study and practical training combined with direct and one-to-one discussion in the classroom, will give you, across three years, the skills you need to successfully build your future and prepare for your professional career.

The Interior Design programme at IED Firenze is definitely your best option if you want to become a creative professional. For those like you who are inspired by curiosity and want to develop practical project design skills: that's what it takes to create successful solutions focused on human emotions and needs.

This programme is designed for anyone who wants to investigate the areas between people and space making full use of such elements as lights, furniture, colours, fabrics and materials, no matter what their scientific background might be.

Future career opportunities include the classic role of an Interior Designer, but also other positions such as Retail Designer, Service Designer, Exhibit Designer, Designer for Hospitality and Set Designer.

The Interior Design degree programme at IED Firenze will give you the opportunity to experience and be inspired by a place that can be described as an open-air mood board. Being the birthplace of the 16th century artistic tradition, the city of Florence has crossed history with its own distinct style, maintaining all along that creative drive that still sets it apart today.

Our school in Florence has two key advantages. One is that here we have direct contact with many different companies offering international partnership opportunities to our students. The other is the interdisciplinary approach of our education (programmes include Fashion, Visual Arts, Design), as students can acquire higher levels of expertise in such areas as communication, style and technology.

Another important thing about the school in Florence is its special focus on light sources and interaction. Over the three years, you will be introduced to lighting project design from a scientific and technological perspective, but above all as a powerful expressive tool.

The Interior Design programme at IED Firenze is the answer to current evolving market trends, with professionals having to interpret, understand and rethink a social context where new lifestyles are affecting the way we use urban, public and private spaces. Indeed, today there is a strong need to develop more eco-sustainable solutions where industrial manufacturing and craftsmanship can merge harmoniously with each other.

For a field as challenging as Interior Design, three years may seem like a short time. However, our dynamic learning method based on intensive lab sessions and personal involvement with each student will allow you to feel confident about your skills and knowledge, preparing you to quickly and successfully move into the job market.
