A new space for experimentation where disciplines, ideas, and creativity come together.

IED Firenze opens the city’s doors to thought and experimentation with Campo Aperto – Imagining Beyond Borders, a project that transforms the former Teatro dell’Oriuolo into a space for dialogue between design, art, fashion and communication.

In an era where disciplinary boundaries are increasingly blurred, Campo Aperto aims to be a research and creativity lab where ideas take shape through the intersection of diverse practices. Here, students, professionals, and citizens are invited to participate actively, contributing to the construction of a collective and ever-evolving narrative.

Through workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and talks, the project seeks to make visible a vision of education that questions major contemporary issues, fostering new forms of cultural production and intertwining different perspectives.

The former Teatro dell’Oriuolo thus becomes a dynamic space for research and experimentation, open to the city and interdisciplinary exchange. Here, design blends with art, fashion intersects with technology, and communication embraces new forms of expression, generating innovative project pathways.

The Campo Aperto programme will also make use of the collaboration of three key figures in the contemporary Italian cultural scene, who as mentors will guide the students through tools for reading and interpreting the transformations taking place in their respective spheres.

The contributions of Maria Cristina Didero, curator and curatorial director of Design Miami, Leonardo Bigazzi, curator and producer of artistic films, and Stefano Cipolla, art director of L'Espresso, will foster an open, informed dialogue on the connections between design, art and visual communication

Upcoming Events:

Vestirsi è facile/Nuove forme radicali  (April 3 – May 22, 2025): An exhibition and workshop curated by Dario Bartolini/Archizoom, retracing the legacy of radical design and exploring its possible evolutions in contemporary fashion.

Garden Talks (May 13-14, 2025): Two days of discussions and debates on the dissolution of disciplinary boundaries and new design perspectives, featuring artists, designers, and industry professionals.

WHY Festival presents: Stefano Rovai Retrospective (June 25 – July 18, 2025): An exhibition dedicated to a key figure in Italian graphic design, showcasing a selection of posters chosen by the author himself.

With Campo Aperto, IED Firenze once again establishes itself as a center for cultural production and research, where knowledge is built through the encounter of disciplines, languages, and visions. An invitation to imagine without borders, to explore new possibilities, and to shape a future where creativity becomes a tool for social and cultural transformation.
