Honda Tomo: fun driving by IED

Tomo is the prototype in 1:1 scale made by the students of the Master course in Transportation Design as Final Project that has been presented at Geneva International Motor Show. Just like in an automotive design centre, the company came to the students with an ambitious brief: designing the ideal means of transport for young people in the next six years. Months of planning and extensive research on key values like friendship, fun driving and respect for the environment led to the creation of Tomo, meaning “friend” in Japanese, an electric concept car halfway between a smart device and a mobility tool for both free time leisure outside the city and urban settings. The concept of Tomo takes inspiration from a manga story created by the former students of the course.

IED Alumni: Vasiliy Kurkov

Vasiliy Kurkov, from Russia, arrived at IED Torino to study Transportation Design after having studied Industrial Design in his home Country and an internship at General Motors in Germany. He started with the Undergraduate course, that gave him the chance to intern at Mercedes-Benz, in Germany again. Then he came back to Turin to complete his education with the Master course in Transportation Design. While studying, Vasiliy started working already for I.DE.A Institute, a design studio in Turin. Later he moved to Centro Stile Alfa Romeo in Turin as Interior Designer. After having spent several years there, he moved to Munich, where he is currently working as Senior Exterior Designer for NIO, a design studio of a Chinese-American start-up.

aerodynamics workshop in collaboration with newcast service

During this workshop, students developed a sigle-seat experience race-car matching aerodynamic solutions with design issues and personal intentions. They were asked to provide sketches, textes, images, 3D modeling etc of both interiors and exteriors, as well as the design of the pilot’s racing suit: that was the birth of the prototype Manta.
The workshop saw the collaboration of Newcast Service, a company that offers rapid prototyping solutions and services for material engineering and the racing world.

Visiting the extraordinary spaces of Museo Ferrari in Maranello: a dream coming true for every car lover. The students had a tour of the exhibitions, enjoyed a special didactic session and even experienced a classic pit-stop with a single-seater Formula 1, as real Ferrari mechanics.

from the master course to the job market

Career Service supports students in their contacts with the world of work through relationships with companies, agencies, freelancers, and a customised activity of tutoring. During their path, students can take advantage of a bespoke activity of support and monitoring. They also have the possibility to meet external companies and participate to selection interviews for activation of internships or collaborations once the study path is over.

Moreover every year IED organises the Career Days: targeted meetings with companies and agencies aimed at the selection and search of profiles to join their teams. Students have the chance to present their own works highlighting their motivation, creativity and aspirations.
