The Interior Designer interprets the urban changes by identifying roles, services, lifestyles and aesthetic of the interior space. This professional restyles the public image of cities, working for hotels, restaurants, cafes, shops, malls, merging urban with the intimacy and rest place for excellence: home.
Interior Designers - space artisans - embody the primary professional roles of contemporary times, when market and politics influence the transformation of existing spaces as well as cities expansions.

Title - The First Level Academic Diploma is recognized by MIUR (Ministry for Education, University and Research) and equated with the Bachelor’s Degree issued by Universities.

Context – Spaces aren’t what they used to be. Times, societies and needs to experience the places are constantly changing therefore the Interior Designer interprets this evolution.

Methodology and structure – This Three-year course supports students in building a strategic vision and developing awareness of all the dynamics and variables affecting his activity.
The course structure is finalised to getting a balanced knowledge on space structure. It’s articulated in 4 main goals: Know your time, through the study of art history and architecture, sociology
and anthropology; Investigate new possibilities thanks to labs; Get the tools to use materials, colors, shapes and technologies; Tell the project through advanced skills of space representation.

First year is dedicated to getting a basic education, cultural references, tools and design methodology.
Students learn free-hand sketch and CAD - useful to make models using basic materials - subsequently 3D printers and laser cut machines.
Later on students get design consciousness and complete their skill set such as 3D modeling and production (render) of realistic images by the application of materials and lights to virtual settings.

By the third year students gain creative autonomy by experiencing the latest technologies of simulation and interaction applied to design, facing with real projects thanks to the collaborations with partner companies and institutions as MAXXI and MACRO exhibit spaces, cultural spaces as Teatro Eliseo or associations as la Fondazione Montessori and l’ONG Intersos.

Career opportunities – Interior Designer, Exhibit and Cultural Designer, Retail Designer, Hospitality Designer, Personal Designer, Concept Designer.

Gianfranco Bombaci - Coordinator of Design School at IED Roma

Gianfranco Bombaci - Coordinator of Design School at IED Roma
Architect and PhD in Environmental Design. From 1998 to 2001 he has been Co-founder and Curator of  2A+P design magazine. From 2005 to 2008 he’s been associated with the architecture study 2A+P with which he participated in international competitions, receiving awards and mentions. Since 2009 he has been collaborating with 2A + P / A handling architecture, urbanism and landscape, developing projects for public buildings, housing and urban spaces.

Marco Provinciali - Course coordinator

Marco Provinciali - Course coordinator
Architect. He studied at IUAV University in Venice and TU Delft. He had been tutoring at IUAV, Villard International Seminar and IED RomA. In 2016 he founded Supervoid, with Benjamin Gallegos: the architecture office has participated in the 2014 and 2016 Venice Biennale and designed the Archizines show in Venice. He published projects and essays on international magazines and books such as: Sanrocco, Domus, Elements of Venice, The Real Review among others.

Giulio Gualtieri

Giulio Gualtieri
Architect. In 2002 he attended the Specialisation course in Interior Design at IED Roma. He works with Carlo Lococo Architect and in the following years he develops a particular interest in architectural design through the study and development of models. He collaborates with Architect Massimiliano Fuksas and in 2011 he founds the Officina06 studio, working as a freelance in the development of architectural models and prototypes.    

Arianna Sodano

Arianna Sodano
Architect and designer, she cooperates with many companies, focusing her work on ergonomic research and UX Experience. She is SIE, BEDA and ADI member; she was ADI Lazio committee couselor and member of ADI Design Permanent Observatory in Design for Work category. She wrote articles and essays in the ergonomic field, Design for All e UX Experience.

Giuseppe Vultaggio

Giuseppe Vultaggio
Architect, based in Rome. He worked around the world cooperating with international firms such as: IaN+; Njiric+ Arhitekti; NIO Architecten; Zaha Hadid Architects. In 2009, he founded his own firm: GVultaggio Creative Office, which is an interdisciplinary creative laboratory working on architecture and visual communication; a dynamical team of professionals and creatives with different backgrounds that work together to create projects with a strong identity.

Francesca Delicato

Francesca Delicato
Architect since 2003, the following year she obtained the II level ASP international Master. She has cooperated with architectural and engineering firms both in Italy and Spain. Her goal is to make the drawing, by hand or digital, a vehicle of communication, highlighting the power of language for images in the digital age. She dedicates her time to interior design, small and medium scale design, work and artistic direction, creation of craft and design products.

Riccardo Petrachi

Riccardo Petrachi
Architect. He's a founding member of architecture firm 2tr-territorio e ricerca, which is mainly engaged in design and construction of public and private buildings, working from the general to the technical details of the constructions. Among the awards and exhibitions: the final step of the Gold Medal for Architecture of Triennial Milan, special jury mention at Premio Piranesi, the prize Linguaggio Contemporaneo and the first prize in the abitarECOstruire competition for a residential building - high energy efficiency - in Pesaro.

Pasquale Salerno

Pasquale Salerno
Architect with twenty years of experience in the production of architectural models, urban, scenic and furniture. he has been collaborating for years with prestigious architecture and urban planning studios, including those of Prof. Paolo Portoghesi, Arch, Arch. Paolo Pallucco, Arch. Pine Pasquali, Arch. Giancarlo Primoli and Arch. Francesco Prori.

Alessandra Colucci

Alessandra Colucci
She lives between Oxford and Rome. She is a consultant specializing in brand management, strategic planning and creative direction. She works in Italy and abroad with companies and professionals of different business sectors. Since 2016 she has worked as a lecturer in Brand Retail at Oxford Brookes University.  

Tiziana Proietti

Tiziana Proietti
Architect and Researcher in Architecture and Urban Design at the Department DIAP Sapienza University of Rome. From 2011 to 2013 she was a Visiting PhD Researcher at the University of Technology TUDelft where she conducted researches on the role of proportion in architectural design from the architecture of the twentieth century in the Netherlands. Since 2014 she’s been Co-publisher with Satyendra Pakhalé for the research platform CultureofCreation.

Valerio Paolo Mosco

Architect and Critic. He taught at the universities of Chicago, Brescia and Ferrara. He currently teaches at IUAV in Venice. Jacopo Benci

Jacopo Benci
He is an artist and researcher, graduated in Contemporary Art History at the Sapienza University of Rome. From 1984 he has been taking part in exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. He is Assistant Director Fine Arts and Senior Research Fellow at Modern Studies and Contemporary Visual Culture at the British School of Rome. He has curated about 70 exhibitions of artist and architects residing at the BST, in Italy and London. He has held conferences and has published peer-reviewed essays about Antonioni, Pasolini, Ghirri.

Andrea Ricci

Andrea Ricci
Architect. After being an associate architect with King & Roselli Architetti, in 2009 he started his own architectural studio and at the same time he continued to collaborate dynamically with other studios. Among his works: Es Radisson Hotel - Roma, Nuova Biblioteca Università Lateranense - Roma, National Convention Center Hotel - Qatar, Tanjung Rhu Resort - Malesia, Sheraton Hotel - Malpensa, ClubMed - Cefalù, Palazzo Italia renovation - Roma, Rome Convention Center – Studio Fuksas - Roma, Rhinoceros / Fondazione Alda Fendi – AJN - Roma.

Barbara Brocchi

Barbara Brocchi
Graduated in Illustration and Graphic Design from IED Roma in 1986, she completed her studies in America. Art Director for BIBLIOLIBRO, Coordinator at IAC ROMA. She has worked as an Illustrator, Writer, Art Director, Project Manager and Product Designer with communication and publishing companies, advertising agencies, fashion companies, architectural firms. She works also as Characters Designer for animation products and cartoons.  

Alessio Tommasetti

Alessio Tommasetti
Architect, PhD in Sciences of Representation and Relief. Cofounder of Studio D’Arc, an architecture associate studio. Founder and Partner of the startup SHAPEUP Italy, awarded by Lazio Innova, for the digitalization and rapid prototyping in the world of fashion, 2016. Ambassador for Wacom. He deals with architecture, interior and product design, jewelry and accessories design, robotics and bionics, exhibit, prototyping, advanced rendering, video editing, special effects for the audiovisual, indie digital comics. 

Benedetta Gaiani

Benedetta Gaiani
Architect and photographer, she graduated in Architecture in Ferrara in 2012 and grew with 5+1AA, for whom she worked in Italy and France on some major international projects. In 2013 she graduated in photography in Florence. In the meanwhile, armed with a camera and an innate passion for music, she started capturing live images of her favourite bands and soon began freelancing. She currently works as a freelance architect and photographer.  

Alessandra Reggiani

Alessandra Reggiani
Architect and Lighting Designer. Since 1996 she owns a studio specialised in Lighting Design. She worked mainly in the field of cultural heritage and residential, but has been involved in many other application areas, both in interior and outdoor. Author of many pubblications, she collaborates constanly with the magazine Luce&design. She's a member of the National Council od AIDI – Italian Association of Lighting.

Claudio Esposito

Claudio Esposito
Italian architect, director and producer. Founder and CEO of The Piranesi Experience, an agency based in Rome. He directs and produces art-house films, documentaries, branded videos and multimedia contents with a specific focus on architecture, design and art. He’s teacher at IED Roma and at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.
