Learn how to communicate fashion with visuals and words, developing new ideas and inspirations to make a product more appealing. Discover what it takes to make a successful creative project: you will learn how to design photo shoots, videos, fashion films, events, fashion shows and publishing materials.  

The Fashion Stylist and Editor programme at IED Roma will give you the opportunity to learn how to enhance the brand value of fashion products. And starting from your second year, you will be able to choose your preferred specialization track: Fashion Stylist or Fashion Editor.

The Fashion Stylist specialization track will give you the opportunity to connect with Creative Directors, Photographers and Fashion Designers, working with them on the main tasks involved in the collection creation process. On the other hand, the Fashion Editor specialization track will focus on such areas as fashion publishing, TV and media broadcasting, where you can provide original fashion coverage and be involved in cool hunting and trend-setting activities.

 

After the course, a First Level Academic Diploma is issued. It is recognised by MUR - Italian Ministry of University and Research - and has the same legal value of a Bachelor’s Degree.

Learn how to design the visuals and words of fashion.

The structure of the Fashion Stylist and Editor degree programme is based on a cross-cutting curriculum, providing a solid cultural base combined with skills in the use of photography, video and writing tools.

Over the six semesters of study, you will learn to approach, manage and build your project design skills. These will be useful when developing projects in cooperation with companies from the industry, but also as part of your process of creation, communication and promotion of fashion brands and products.

The aim of the programme is to train professionals in the fashion industry with strong communication skills, critical thinking, awareness and creative intelligence. 

Starting in your second year, you will be focusing on practical projects, which will give you an even better understanding of what you can do. It will be the time for you to choose your specialization track: Fashion Stylist if you want to become a professional in brand design and communication who works with visuals; Fashion Editor if you want to work in brand publishing and communication.

The three-year Fashion Stylist and Editor degree programme at IED Roma is your best option if you want to learn about the world of fashion, create innovation with visual and publishing communication, while also shaping the style trends of the future.

The curriculum will enhance your skills, whatever your educational and cultural background, and will allow you to build and shape your creative identity, as well as visual skills and strong business acumen.

The Fashion Stylist and Editor degree programme at IED Roma will encourage you to get personally involved all along your learning process. You will be able to bring out your inner self, and that will be the source of your personal creative process.

Workshops, seminars and special projects will contribute to your personal and professional training. Likewise, events and conferences with professionals from the industry -committed to further enhancing your skills- will allow you to experience new areas of knowledge, both nationally and internationally.

Your training programme will be supported by a variety of projects developed in cooperation with medium to large sized companies and international brands. This will be a very important opportunity to test your skills and teamwork on the field. This is also a great way for you to get involved and understand what you can do.

Upon completion of your studies, you will be able to work as a Brand Consultant, Creative Direction Coordinator, Fashion Editor, Fashion Social Media Manager, Fashion Stylist, Fashion and Vintage Research Expert, Fashion Web Editor, Press Office and Digital PR, Trend Forecaster and Visual Merchandiser.

Syllabus

first year

The first year will introduce you to the history and basics of the fashion industry. Coursework including digital image processing, photography, theory of perception and psychology of form will provide a general understanding of the main technical tools used in the profession.

second year

On your second year, methods and specific technical tools will be further explored, while theory knowledge previously acquired will be useful when working on the different projects that you will be taking part in. You will be able to choose your preferred specialization track between: Fashion Stylist or Fashion Editor.

Fashion Stylist 
This specialization track provides a deeper understanding of fashion trends, fashion system communication methods, fashion design and photography, as well as business organization. You will work independently as you develop your creativity and organizational skills even further.

Fashion Editor 
This specialization track will get you to learn how the styling process actually works - from creation of an inspirational mood board to final editing - so you can work independently. You will also explore writing techniques in the areas of journalism, creative writing and web content creation, all of which will be useful for storytelling with visuals and text.

third year

On your third year, you will continue to study and learn more about the techniques for creating photo shoots and video trailers if you specialize in Fashion Stylist. On the other hand, you will be working on projects from a visual and written content perspective if you choose to specialize as a Fashion Editor. We will provide inputs and support as you prepare your dissertation project and plan the next steps forward.
