IED Transportation Design: 20 years of educational excellence

1994:  Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) Torino opens the Transportation Design Course.

2014: 20 years later IED Torino has established itself as a centre of educational excellence in transportation design and ranked second in the latest Worldwide School League Report edited by Cardesignnews.

On June 19, 2014, at the Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile (National Automobile Museum) in Turin, IED Torino offers the City and the automotive industry an occasion for reflection and discussion concerning the relationship between car design and the future of mobility.

The conference entitled #CarDesignSmart Towards new models for mobility will start at 3 pm.

IED foresees new ways of approaching the creative process, exploring the dialogue between the past car design trends with the present on demand culture and style.
These topics will be at the centre of a debate with

Flavio Manzoni, Creative Director at Ferrari S.p.A.;
Thomas Bürkle, Chief Designer at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre;
Davide Gomba, Co-founder of Officine Arduino
Claudio Lubatti, Town councilor for Viability and Transportation at the City of Turin
Riccardo Balbo, Director IED Torino

Carlo Cavicchi, an esteemed figure with a long-standing relationship with Quattroruote magazine, will moderate the debate.

Afterwards, at 6.30 pm, the opening of the exhibition IED transportation design: 20 years of excellence will illustrate 20 years of continuing education in close cooperation with global brand leaders in the automotive industry.

The exhibition will present projects, international achievements and testimonies of former students. These students are now well-known designers working in 80% of the design centers of not only partner brands, but also of companies cooperating with the IED in the selection of new creative talents. The exhibition remains open from June 20th to August 31st 2014 within Mauto’s opening hours.
