20th edition - The Master's Course in Transportation Design offers people with a great passion for cars the chance to engage strongly in car design techniques

It takes students to the core of the design world, making them learn about innovative thinking and how to approach, develop and finalize the design of a car exterior and a car interior.

Turin is the perfect city for this course, being the world capital of car design and the birthplace of the most important design centres and car companies of Italy.

The city offers the chance to get the whole network of Car Designers to come to IED sharing their abilities with our students for classes, lectures, workshops or for recruiting young talents.

The Master focuses its approach on simulating a real work experience. The goal is to present a full-scale model designed and sculpted by the students in collaboration with a partner company.

Information to decide

The didactic pathway smoothly integrates theoretical knowledge and work experience. The syllabus envisages a first year focused on providing the theoretical and design tools required to produce a scale model.

This is followed by a detailed analysis of the main manual and digital representation techniques, the ergonomics, and architectural features of a vehicle, as well as different techniques such as clay modelling.

During the second year, many aspects relating to a vehicle are explored in greater depth, and all stages of the design process are examined in detail. Students will be asked to provide advanced projects integrated with UI, UX and Service Design, in order to explore and experiment with new scenarios and sectors of mobility.

For their final dissertation, students will become involved in what, to all intents and purposes, is a true work environment with a Design Centre approach. The final objective is the production of a full-size scale model.

Admission to the Master's Course is open to graduates in all design fields, as well as to professionals with at least two years of work experience in the automotive sector. Applicants can also be directly admitted to the second year.
