In the spaces of IED Firenze, an exhibition of clothes made by the students of both universities with the traditional fabrics of the Oaxaca region will open to the public.
On the occasion a special Masterclass by Blanche Helene Toffel Quiñones, coordinadora de la Escuela de Moda, Innovación y Tendencia de la Universidad Anáhuac México and by Giovanni Ottonello IED Art Director with the intervention of RACU on mexican textiles and their use in contemporary fashion design.
Dandy Couture is a project of academic cooperation between IED – Istituto Europeo di Design (Department of Fashion Design of Rome and Florence offices) and Universidad Anáhuac México Norte ( Dipartimento di Licenciatura en Moda, Innovación y Tendencia) with the collaboration of RACU – Raíces Culturales and the Oaxaca artisan groups (Quiavini, Mujeres Unidas de Teotitlan del Valle, Seda Bienhi and Nytko Naňi), under the patronage of the Mexican Embassy in Italy and the Mexican Consulate in Italy.
On the occasion of the celebrations of México City as World Design Capital 2018, IED and Anáhuac have combined their many years of experience in the field of design education and the enthusiasm of their young talents to create an innovative and socially sustainable fashion project called Dandy Couture. The exhibition now moves to Italy and takes part to the Pitti Filati off events.
Thanks to the collaboration of the master weavers of the Mexican region of Oaxaca, the RACU Raices Culturales association and the groups of artisans represented by it, the students of IED and Anáhuac were asked to try their hand at reinterpreting traditional Mexican fabrics, according to the taste of the Italian contemporary consumers, also referring to the charm and stylistic identity of the Dandy.
