IED and LINDSAY KEMP 4 PITTI UOMO 92!
IED is ready to attend the upcoming Pitti edition, presenting 40 of its best fashion and design students from 9 different branches, plus a collaboration with an international artist who has left an indelible mark on contemporary art and culture: Lindsay Kemp.
The workshop will involve 40 IED students who – under the overall guidance of Kemp and the supervision of Giovanni Ottonello, IED Art Director – will create the costumes for the event, using fabrics and products coming from companies located in Como and Tuscany. In particular the Argenti silk-makers from Como – a historic name in Italy’s textile industry that annually produces and sells worldwide about 3.5 million metres of fabric for women’s clothing – will print a series of Lindsay Kemp’s drawings on duchesse silk. The performance at the end of the workshop will feature Kemp himself as main character, accompanied by two of his dancers, Daniela Maccari and Alessandro Pucci. It will take place on June 15th in the amazing cloister of Florence’s Museo Novecento – by invitation only. More info on IED.it/ied4pitti. The students involved in costumes’ creation will also wear them during Kemp’s performance.
This final event will be semi-improvised and absolutely unrepeatable. Kemp and his dancers will evoke the figure of Okuni, the founder of Kabuki. The dances will be accompanied by Joji Hirota, the famous Japanese musician who worked with him for many years and who will perform percussion, flute and voice, creating a fusion between ancient tradition and contemporary avant-garde.
During Pitti, IED will also host in its headquarter in Florence, Via Bufalini 6R, an exhibition of Kemp’s drawings printed on silk that will then go on tour.
