Two Ethos 2.0 – IED in Korea

Two Ethos 2.0 is a joint project between IED – Istituto Europeo di Design, Department of Fashion Design of the Milan, Florence and Como “Accademia Galli” campuses and KNUCH, Korean National University of Cultural Heritage, under the patronage of the  Consulate of Korea in Milan, and the Embassy of Italy in Korea.

“Two Ethos” means two worlds, two cultures, blending the creative approach and Italian design-oriented way of teaching with the study and conservation of the Korean craftsmanship tradition.

IED Fashion Design students developed
fashion items, in line with contemporary tastes and needs of Western consumers, using traditional Korean fabrics coming from different regions of the country and different historical periods, selected and produced by weaving masters, following traditional processing methods, recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage.

The young IED fashion designers had the task of educating Western consumers to understand the beauty and quality of the Korean fabric, by paying attention both to cultural mediation and to the sensorial qualities at the base of the choice of a dress.

An exhibition in Seoul will show the results of this design challenge.
