IED in INÉDITO Universitario – México Design Week

This year, IED – Istituto Europeo di Design collaborates in the Inédito Universitario event, organized by México Territorio Creativo and Design Week México.

INÉDITO is a platform promoting a call for utilitarian design projects in the categories of: social impact, environmental impact, innovation, function, aesthetics, concept, user experience, materials and processes. The platform includes three categories of participation: professional, student and digital. It is not only a contest or an exhibition, Inédito shows the opportunities for a national and international market of good design with commercial and production feasibility, both for professionals in the sector and for new talents who propose novel changes.

The concept behind INÉDITO is that design has the power to transform a problem into an innovative solution, with the ability to positively impact our lives and the world. Design is much more than aesthetics, it is a universal process that can be applied to transform complex systems and services, processes, public policies, technology or products as well as the places where we live, work, play and learn.

The Inédito Universitario event wanted to promote collaborative and multidisciplinary work offered by the academy and also focused on expanding learning and knowledge in specialized design.

The jury for the selection and award was made up of prominent members of the national and international design community. The evaluation criteria were the following:

  • Innovation
  • Functionality
  • Concept
  • User experience
  • Materials and processes
  • Esthetics
  • Craft social impact
  • Environmental impact

Among the members of the Evaluation Jury by IED, there were:

– the Italian Architect and Designer Geo Lanza, founder of the SLD Studio Lanza Design that develops Interior Design, Graphic, Retail, Branding, Corporate Identity projects, etc. and has clients of recognized brands internationally in Europe, USA, Asia among others. He’s also a teacher at IED Milano.

Sebastián Alberdi, Industrial and Product Designer, founder of his own studio in Barcelona, where he creates and develops furniture and product design projects, lighting and spaces for clients of well-known European brands and companies. He’s also Academic Coordinator and teacher in the Product Design area at IED Barcelona.

Iván Vidal, Industrial Designer and Project Manager of the FITS – Future department Innovation Tailor-Made School of IED Spain, where he works giving continuity to its academic responsibilities with companies, universities and national and international institutions. Founder of his own studio focused on the design of urban furniture, commercial furniture, packaging and interior design with important direct and indirect clients in Latin America. Winner of the Mention for the best Innovation and Design project of the Biennial Iberoamericana de Diseño in 2018, with the Winco Pro project

Inédito Universitario, brought together teams of students from the Design and Product Faculties coming from the main Mexican Universities such as:

Escuela de Diseño del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura, Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM MTY y Región Ciudad de México), Universidad Anáhuac México, Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx), Universidad del Valle de México (UVM), Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM), Universidad Iberoamericana.

The winners won the opportunity to attend a IED Summer course in Spain or Italy with a scholarships having an approximate value of $ 7,000 USD, and they will also be able to exhibit their projects in Spain next 2022. In addition, all participants in this edition of Inédito will be able to enjoy a 20% special discount on any Summer course 2021.
