Use the language of fashion to express modern times through inspirations, visuals, shapes and materials that tell a story. This is what the Fashion Design degree programme at IED Cagliari is all about

Open up to the world around you with great awareness, taking inspiration from what you see and translating it all into garments and collections. Let yourself be inspired by your curiosity to explore new materials and techniques, learning about the styles and traditions that have contributed to the development of this industry as one of the cornerstones of Italy's culture and economy. Grow up your passion and desire to be involved with real projects. Learn from the great fashion designers that you will be meeting, and keep on working even when faced with unexpected challenges.

The Fashion Design degree programme at IED Cagliari will take you on a journey where you can learn how to develop fashion products following your own creative ideas. You will design clothes and accessories, creating a personal style inspired by the world around you and the society you are part of. You will approach traditional pattern-making and tailoring techniques, with a close insight into material knowledge, fashion drawing and illustration both freehand and using software tools. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in developing a garment from concept all the way to completed production.

Over the three years of study, you will learn to take inspiration not just from fashion, but also from other areas including visual arts, digital media and new technology, marketing, product management, art direction and corporate communication.

After the course, a First Level Academic Diploma is issued. It is recognised by MUR - Italian Ministry of University and Research - and has the same legal value of a Bachelor’s Degree.

The course to learn how to make a garment from concept all the way to production

The Fashion Design degree programme at IED Cagliari aims to provide students with technical and practical skills to design fashion collections consisting of garments, accessories and fabrics.

Our teaching philosophy is focused on the key role of project design and methods. These areas will be explored more and more in depth as you get involved in some of the projects developed by companies partnering with IED. Over the three years, you will learn about pattern-making and tailoring techniques, textile materials technology, fashion drawing and illustration techniques, garment and accessory manufacturing, as well as the basics of fashion styling.

In addition to technical and analytical methods of the profession, we will also be exploring cultural subjects useful to understand the fashion language from a historical, artistic and social perspective. We will also be looking at fashion as a flow of trends and concepts, as a creative and visual expression of style and ideas. Fashion can also be regarded as an economic system, taking a supply chain-based perspective or in terms of marketing and communication strategies working across specific media channels. Upon completion of your Fashion Design programme at IED Cagliari, you will possess skills and a business acumen to be able to effectively manage the changing dynamics of the market.

The Fashion Design degree programme at IED Cagliari is designed for anyone who feels a strong passion and interest in fashion. Indeed, this art has always been regarded as a way of interpreting the changing times and the social-political processes of our society across history. As such, fashion is like a code that can actually be understood and enjoyed by everybody.

If you too feel that fashion is a source of curiosity and inspiration, if you are eager to know how to tell your story through the power of clothes, expressing your uniqueness and translating your personal vision into creations and fashion collections, this programme is definitely your best option.
