Students carried out live sketches of four physical models of motor vehicles

Three hours of live dynamic sketching to explore and perfect the technique of visualising and capturing dynamic sketches on paper in the field of automotive design. This is what several IED Barcelona students from the Transportation Design courses experienced taking part in the second edition of the Sketching Marathon on 15 April at the Point One Open Space.

The event, which included four sketching challenges of model motor vehicles, was led by Jesús Iglesias, Programme Leader of Transportation Design at IED Barcelona. In addition, Alessandro Riga, Senior Interior Designer for PEUGEOT AUTOMOBILES, was present as a guest. At the end of the competition, he shared his experience in an open conversation with the students.

The Sketching Marathon was also the setting where students were able to test the prototypes designed by the second-year Transportation Design students in the “Playing with Scalextric” project. Taking iconic vehicles from the past as a reference, they designed the exterior of several cars, improving and modernising aesthetic aspects in coherence with the brand’s line up.

The second edition of the Sketching Marathon concluded with an awards ceremony, recognising the best sketches in three categories: Style, Creativity, and Productivity (quantity and speed). The winners were Mateo Daniel Bigalli Melaragno, Gianfranco Piero Alvigni and Patricio Alejandro Montoya Angulo, respectively. As a prize, all three will travel to the Geneva Motor Show in 2025.

The jury also awarded a Special Mention to the fourth-year Product Design student Roig Vilaró.
