This May IED is in New York City, with students and Alumni presenting their projects and winning awards at both NYCxDESIGN festival and the Creative Week.

IED @ NYCxDESIGN

NYCxDESIGN goal is to unify New York’s creative capital under one umbrella and draw significant exposure and opportunities to the City’s design disciplines, people, events, and related industries. NYCxDESIGN organizes exceptional year-round programming, including its international festival in May. IED Italy and IED Spain will participate again this year in the virtual exhibition of Wanted Design International Schools Show, from May 9th to June 30th, 2022 with a selection of Undergraduate and Master thesis projects from Design school following the fil rouge of sustainability and inclusivity. 

IED projects that are are going be showcased:

Ecolibrì by Chiara Antonini and Rebecca Fraioli – IED Roma, Lesbos Regufee Camp by Naroa Zabaleta – IED Bilbao, Obscurity: Blind Tourism by Anna De Faria Papachristopoulou – IED Barcelona, Phos by Gabriele Onnis – IED Cagliari, Reddo by Francesco Lucini – IED Barcelona, Sbun-Design Rethinking Plastic by Andrea List, Matteo Mulas and Leonardo Santambrogio – IED Milano, Sway by Xueyu Ji – IED Madrid, Synergy by May Beydoun – IED Barcelona, Tingle by Rodrigo Vega – IED Madrid, Sōzō by Florencia Aida Montibeller and Melisa Massena.

Lesbos Refugee Camp, by Naroa Zabaleta won the Conscious Design Award 2022: the jury unanimously recognized this project as the best project for Social Impact.

Furthemore IED Alumni (Master in Design, innovation strategy and product – IED Milano) Bodin Hon and Dilara Kan, founders of YellowDot Studio, will participate in Launch Pad at WantedDesign Manhattan, in the Emerging Designers Showcase with Hatch, Jelly, Bubbling, 3 lighting design projects.

Launch Pad is an outstanding international platform for emerging designers that introduces new concepts and showcases prototypes of furniture, home accessories, and lighting. It is the best place for manufacturers to meet new designers, discover fresh ideas and potential products to develop. 

Lastly, IED Alumnus Alvaro Catalán de Ocón, also Coordinator of the IED Forward course Creative Process in Product Design presented the exhibition Closing the PET plastic loop:  PET Lamp + Plastic Rivers in Brooklyn on May the 18th. Both projects aim at empowering regional communities to rethink plastic bottles in a new way. The outcomes are perfectly crafted objects (Lamps and Rugs)  drawing light on pollution while adding beauty to any space.
