Aria is the winning project in the international Reinventing Cities competition organised by the City of Milan and announced today at a press conference at the Triennale for the redevelopment of Ex Macello area. Istituto Europeo di Design participated in the winning proposal, led by the benefit company Redo Sgr, with the IED International Campus project.

This great achievement represents an important milestone in the development of our institution, confirming the strength and innovative capacity that have always been part of IED’s vocation” – said Carlo Allorio, IED President“Today in Milan our school occupies just under 20,000 square metres, divided into 10 sites: with this project we will increase the available space to 30,000 square metres and our community will converge in one place, designed by architect Cino Zucchi in the middle of a large green area.”

The new IED Campus will be one of the largest Higher Education Campuses in Italy entirely dedicated by a private institution to creativity, art, culture and design for future generations. Ex Macello area will bring together all the Milanese sites that are currently disconnected and spread throughout the City. All the staff, students and lecturers, who have already reached 5,000 people, will come together here; classrooms, laboratories and dedicated spaces, libraries and all other services will be brought together in one place: 30,000 square metres in the context of a large park, designed by CZA Cino Zucchi Architetti, in an area which, having abandoned its previous activities, will be regenerated in accordance with the highest principles of environmental and social sustainability dictated by the rules of the international competition. For the City of Milan, this victory means that IED Campus will contribute, together with the other participants in the project, to reviving, redeveloping and repopulating the large disused areas of the Calvairate district, and that the investment in this area will also include a major training centre for young people.

Together with Redo Sgr, the benefit company leading the proposal, and Istituto Europeo di Design, the Aria project involves: CA Ventures, E.ON, Megalopolis, CL, while the designers are architectural firms Spaghetti Oslo, as lead architect, Barrett & La Vargas, CZA Cino Zucchi Architetti, Stanton and Chapman Taylor Architetti.
