School of Fashion in Barcelona

IED Fashion is a complete, exhaustive response to the increasingly diversified and specialised training requirements expressed by the fashion system.

A complete school in its own right, based on the principle of cross-fertilisation and the completeness of its teaching methods which, in line with IED philosophy, combines knowledge with know how, theory with practice. Fundamental to this approach is the school’s relationship with the entrepreneurs and professionals working in the Italian fashion business, the world’s largest concentration of clothing industrialists and creatives.

The people who work in this industry have achieved success and international renown as a result of the fashion system’s ability to blend an entrepreneurial spirit with creativity and a perception for innovation.

IED Fashion points the way for its students to live and feel this sense of fashion, in an embracing whole and in its individual parts, as an interaction between different perspectives and a combination of diverse professional skills.

As the courses aim at training the professional profiles vital to the industry, these range from the more purely creative to the strategic areas, from organisational to commercial aspects, from marketing to image and communications work.

IED Fashion is a didactic and research project that covers every training requirement in a field of fundamental importance to the Italian and world economies.

From its more specifically creative facets to those of management and commercial enterprise, from the stylist to the fabric or jewellery designer, from the journalist to the events organizer, the fashion industry needs well-trained professionals, with a solid cultural grounding and an acute ability to discern and predict future trends.

These courses are tailored for high-school leavers, young graduates and professionals who want to improve their skills.

In 2002 IED Barcelona opened its Barcelona centre in Gràcia, one of the most authentic and charismatic neighborhoods in the city. Over this nearly 10 years, the school has become a benchmark in teaching design, both nationally and internationally. A leading observatory of trends and research with a project culture at its heart, that offers students the chance to carry our innumerable projects with companies.

2012 is a key year for IED Barcelona, since it marks three major events: From one side, it's conversion to a Higher Level Design School, with the official approval of all its courses, adding a fourth year to the formative programs. From another side, the inaguration of a new seat, with more than 5.000m2 with fashion, interior, product, communication and video labs, as well as classrooms and facilities for conferences that will allow the development of lab and investigation activities, transforming IED in a creative space, unique and pioneer in the city of Barcelona; and finally for the celebration of its 10th anniversary. IED Barcelona will be a spread centre over 2012 of international design, with a wide program of conferences, round tables, exhibitions and other activities related to the design culture, fashion, visual communication and management.

The school’s strong links with the fabric of local enterprise and the distinctly international vocation, both of IED itself and of the host city, have naturally generated a special focus on new technologies as an element of connection and interchange with the professional world in Italy and the rest of Europe and the development of an eLearning platform as a tool for integrating and further exploring the activities undertaken in the classroom.
