A theoretical-practical project investigating the relationship between walking, memory and belonging in urban spaces.
El suelo que desaparece bajo nuestros pies (The Ground Disappearing Beneath Our Feet) is a theoretical‑practical project by Julia González that investigates the relationship between people and urban space. Her research focuses particularly on women’s bodies — bodies that history has so often overlooked.
The project examines how memories are constructed and how they reveal the interdependence among the many agents that shape the city. In this sense, remembrance becomes a tool against alienation, inviting us to rethink what we mean by citizenship.
Inspired by urban perspectives such as the Situationist dérive and women’s flânerie, the project explores the potential of “walking ethnography” as a plural and inclusive methodological approach — one that uncovers the many layers of memory embedded within the city.
