In-person event

A talk with Grazia Gotti inaugurating a cycle of three meetings dedicated to the Picture Book as a contemporary artistic language.

"The Picture Book is the newest art form. We consider it the tenth art."

Since the time of Walter Crane, the illustrated book has evolved into a language with its own rules: 32 pages, the relationship between text and image, but also silent books, without alphabetical signs.

Is it only for children? No, it is for everyone. Turning the 32 pages is, as many say, like entering an art gallery.

Illustration, graphic art, typographic art and book design come together in the service of a cultural product. In the first conference, we will revisit the twentieth century and focus on contemporary proposals, starting from the books by young authors competing in the Opera Prima section of the BolognaRagazzi Award.

The meeting will feature Grazia Gotti, co-founder of the historic Libreria per Ragazzi - Casa Editrice Giannino Stoppani in Bologna and of the Accademia Drosselmeier, School for Booksellers and Centre for Children’s Literature Studies, created to train future booksellers and professionals wishing to work in the field of children’s publishing and childhood culture. Grazia also collaborates with the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and with the Centro per il Libro e la Lettura.

“I have been a bookseller, teacher, publisher, author and publishing consultant, but to tell the truth, I think the title of cultural activist is the one that suits me best.”
