How can design help transform complex scenarios into concrete and shared solutions?
This is the question at the heart of Transizioni Tangibili, a biennial event dedicated to design, launched in Turin as part of the activities of Turin UNESCO Creative City of Design, promoted by the City of Turin together with local institutions and organisations.
From 8 to 31 October 2026, MacA – Museo A come Ambiente and other venues across the city will host exhibitions, talks and workshops exploring design as a driver of cultural, social, environmental and technological innovation.
IED Torino is taking part in the first pilot edition with three student projects, addressing the theme of ecological and environmental transition through different approaches and disciplines:
AURIS, by Simone Spezzigu (Product Design), is a system of sound-absorbing panels made from expanded cork, supplied by Sardinian company Ganau, and designed to improve acoustic comfort at Casa OZ. The organically shaped, easy-to-install modules are generated by an algorithm that optimises sound absorption across specific frequencies, making each installation unique and tailored to the characteristics of the space.
Plastic Emptiness, a thesis project by Kartika Giulia Abbruzzese (Fashion Design), explores the relationship between matter, memory and vulnerability. Drawing on psychology, literature and art, plastic becomes a language through which to make an inner experience visible: the emptiness left by the absence of love. A project in which a fragile yet resistant material becomes both a metaphor and a narrative tool.
Refold, by Andrea Fasano (Product Design), addresses food packaging through the concept of reuse. The project transforms a simple sheet of recycled plastic into a flexible and adaptable returnable packaging system designed for different products. Its aim is to reduce packaging consumption while accompanying the product through an integrated tracking system.
Sideways, an autonomous agricultural vehicle concept developed by Francesco Raffaele, Alessandro Ravedati, Megh Bhatt and Santiago Espindola (Transportation Design). A modular platform designed to address the challenges of mechanised agriculture by reducing energy consumption, soil compaction and wear, while optimising the use of resources through a single vehicle adaptable to different operations.
