BA Photography graduate students present their final projects in a collective exhibition curated by a second-year students

Kindred is a reflection on the ways we connect - to one another and to the world around us - through the work of fourteen emerging artists. This exhibition brings together artists’ books, prints, video installations, and ceramics, the outcome of a collaboration between second and third-year photography students at IED Milan under the guidance of their lecturer.

At its heart lies an exploration of relationships between humans and nature, approached from diverse perspectives: the rebirth of Bassano, a village devastated by an earthquake; a journey through Sardinia as a cathartic response to past trauma; the creation of imaginary landscapes; or the classification of species through taxidermy. Other works turn inward to examine intimacy and personal bonds: a poetic tribute to a Vietnamese grandmother, a collage of loved ones, the portrait of a friend whose life revolves around music, and reflections on the notion of ‘muse’ within romantic relationships.

Several artists use self-portraiture, abstraction, and text to give form to the complexities of mental health, including struggles with suicidal thoughts. Elsewhere, an audiovisual piece questions the influence of pornography on human behavior, while a surrealist short film weaves together abstraction and reality in an intimate narrative.

Kindred invites viewers to consider the many dimensions of relationships: our ties to ourselves, to others, and to the environments we inhabit.
