A simple gesture that becomes a shared practice: repairing together to change the way we engage with fashion.
On April 14, as part of Fashion Revolution Week 2026, from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM, IED Firenze will host Mend in Public Day – Repairing is a Revolutionary Act, a day organized in collaboration with Dress the Change dedicated to the practice of mending and reflecting on the value of our clothes.
The initiative is organized by first and second-year students of the Second-Level Academic Diploma in Textile Design – Eco-Threads: Materials and Circularity, as part of the course History and Theory of Mending, and will be open to the entire IED Firenze community.
Throughout the day, mending and repair stations will be set up: you can bring a damaged garment and learn basic sewing and visible mending techniques, or simply take part and observe.
Mend in Public Day was created with a simple yet powerful goal: to make the act of repair visible, turning it into an act of awareness and responsibility. In a system that pushes us to constantly replace what we own, choosing to repair means placing value back on time, resources, and the hands that made our clothes.
