A fresh approach to the MACRO Museum's foyer, reimagined as a flexible, multifunctional public space where cultural activities, social interaction and everyday life come together through a system of reconfigurable furnishings.

Bringing the museum closer to the life of the neighbourhood and turning a space people usually pass through into somewhere they want to spend time. This is the ambition behind MACRO CLUB, the Thesis project by Viola Saracini and Alessandra Stranges, who rethink the foyer of MACRO Museum in Rome as an extension of the surrounding public space. Their vision opens the museum up to the local community, creating opportunities for activities and encounters that go beyond the traditional museum visit.

The two designers create a system of versatile, modular furnishings that can be rearranged to accommodate different activities and changing needs. Ramps, seats, tables, benches and platforms are designed to work in multiple configurations rather than serve a single fixed purpose. Depending on how they are combined, the same elements can provide places to study and relax, surfaces for games or settings for group activities.

This flexible approach allows the foyer to host everything from skateboarding, bocce and chess to concerts and informal gatherings, adapting to different visitors and changing throughout the day. Viola and Alessandra explore how adaptable furniture and spatial design can encourage people to interact with their surroundings in new ways, blurring the boundaries between cultural venues and everyday social spaces. Their interior design proposal transforms the museum into a lively, welcoming and participatory environment, where everyday activities become part of the cultural experience.
