Four trophies designed together with children: a co-creation process that transforms an award object into a symbol of listening, participation, and shared imagination.
The project originates within the first edition of the Save the Children Research Award, an initiative dedicated to highlighting studies and analyses on the transformations of childhood and adolescence. To give the award an even deeper symbolic value, Save the Children and Fondazione Morelli involved IED Roma in the design and production of four trophies shaped through a process of authentic participation. A collaborative journey that brought together children and students from different courses, including Riccardo Amore from the Master in Design for Children and Isabella Chica Meneses from the Undergraduate Program in Product Design, under the guidance of designer and lecturer Mauro Del Santo.
The design process took shape through four workshops held at the Punto Luce in Ostia, one of Save the Children’s educational spaces. Here, a group of children actively contributed to the ideation phase, producing drawings, symbols, and visual compositions: a rich and powerful collection that became the creative foundation of the project.
The most meaningful materials were selected and transformed into three-dimensional objects using the technologies of the IED Roma Design Lab, including digital modeling and 3D printing.
The result is a series of trophies that preserves the freshness of the children’s perspective while reflecting the precision and care of the design process.
