This October in Beirut: design meets memory, imagination, and the future. We’re offering an inspiring workshop and a scholarship opportunity for young creative talents.
From October 23–24, We Design Beirut brings together local and international voices in design, innovation, and culture. As part of the program, IED Istituto Europeo di Design, in collaboration with Alba-UOB, will present Past-Forward: Designing Memory, Making Futures, a workshop by researcher, curator, and writer Michael Kaethler.
Michael Kaethler has recently curated the National Pavilion of San Marino (Venice Biennale 2023) and The Other Session (Venice Biennale 2024). His research and teaching explore how design engages with alterity, collective memory, and ethnographic methods, making him a unique voice in critical creative practice.
This two-day event explores how design is deeply entangled with memory and imagination. Participants will journey through their own timelines while developing creative responses through images, performance, and storytelling
As part of this initiative, IED will award one full scholarship for the Summer Course in Innovation and Future Thinking at IED Barcelona, July 2026, to one of the workshop participants.
We’re excited to join the Educational Hub Alba x We Design Beirut 2025 with this forward-looking program, bridging past and future, memory and imagination, design and possibility.
