IED Madrid will once again participate as one of the venues hosting IN-SONORA 2026, an international exhibition of sound and interactive art.

In this 14th edition of the festival, IED Madrid Design District (Avenida de Pedro Díez, 3) is joining in with a programme of immersive exhibitions, interactive installations, performances and a round table discussion, consolidating its commitment to contemporary sound, immersive and audiovisual practices.

This year, as a new feature, two of the installations on display have been developed by the IED community: Mar de Fondo, by students from IED Madrid, and So Far, So Close, created by IED Milan in collaboration with Emergency.

The exhibition will open on Thursday, 19 March, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with the performance Phi$hing by Mexican artist Alejandro Viramontes. This will be followed by a panel discussion with Maite Camacho, director of IN-SONORA, and Diego Iglesias, director of IED Madrid School of Visual Arts, as well as some of the participating artists. This panel is part of the Realities in Transition lecture series, which is being led by the School of Visual Arts this year.

The event will culminate with the opening of the exhibitions and installations, which can be visited on Friday (20 March) from 10 am to 7 pm and on Saturday (21 March) from 10 am to 2 pm.

The works to be presented are Wallet Garden by Aissa Santiso (Cuba), Anthropic Cloud by Martin Romeo (Italy), Phi$hing by Alejandro Viramontes (Mexico), Together – So Far, So Close by the SISS – Sounding Images Screening Sounds collective (Italy), and Mar de Fondo, a project developed by students of IED Madrid. A set of proposals that explore the relationships between sound, image, technology and interaction, activating the exhibition space as a place for experimentation and encounter.

Anthropic Cloud

Artist: Martin Romeo (Italia)

Interactive audiovisual installation

Anthropic Cloud is created from data generated by human activity: it is an artificial cloud caused by the contrails of vehicles forming along flight paths. Every day, thousands of airplanes connect cities like metallic rivers along global trajectories. On this occasion, the installation monitors the movement of the sky over Madrid throughout the duration of the exhibition.

Wallet Garden / Fase 2

Artist: Aissa Santiso (Cuba)

Audiovisual installation

While we dream of more evenly distributed ecosystems that break down financial monopolies and foster self-reinforcing dynamics, are these scenarios truly achievable? By monitoring five influential accounts on the Ethereum network, I intend to expose, through captured records, the network of connections between these accounts to demonstrate the existence of recurring agents manipulating the markets.

Phi$ing

Mar de Fondo

Artists: IED Madrid students: Maria Elena Cadenas, Luna Canadell, Fernando López, Soraya Massaad y Sungjin Park. Faculty: Elena Juárez (España)

Interactive audiovisual installation

Mar de Fondo is an immersive and interactive installation that explores the connection between the body and water as a metaphor for change, adaptation, and transformation. The project is based on the idea that water—like the body itself—is constantly reorganising itself: it flows, vibrates, and reconfigures itself according to the environment and the presence of others.

The experience proposes a journey from the macro to the micro: from the oceanic scale to the vibration of a particle.

Together – So Far, So Close (Insieme  – Così Lontani, Così Vicini). SISS Sounding Images Screening Sounds

Artists: IED MILAN & EMERGENCY (Italia)

Interactive audiovisual installation

The interactive installation “Insieme: Cosi Lontani, Cosi’ Vicini” creates a dynamic space in which the audience encounters fragments of stories from war-affected regions where Emergency (an Italian humanitarian NGO) operates. Voices, sounds, and images come to life and transform through the movement of the audience, revealing a choral, collective, and delicate composition.
