A cross-disciplinary project bringing together nearly 200 members of the community to reflect on contemporary communication through design
The IED Kunsthal Bilbao community has marked the start of the 2026/27 academic year with Sareak, a landscape intervention developed with the support of Bilbao City Council, which will remain in Doña Casilda Park until 20 September.
Students from all years and across the four Official Degrees in Fashion, Product, Interior and Graphic Design, together with teaching staff and other members of staff, have taken part in its design, production and installation. A cross-disciplinary experience connecting disciplines, year groups and the wider community, and, for those beginning their studies, their first project at IED Kunsthal Bilbao.
Sareak brings some of the contradictions of contemporary communication into the physical space. A colourful modular structure creates different channels of communication that cross, intertwine and become entangled, inviting people to come closer, listen and interact.
The initiative has a history spanning more than a decade. Following its first ten editions in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the project moved to Bilbao, with an edition at Kobetamendi before arriving at Doña Casilda in 2025, where it is taking place for the second consecutive year with the support of Bilbao City Council.
