A wound care system that harnesses the properties of SCOBY to deliver an innovative and reusable solution

SCHIN explores the potential of SCOBY, a biomaterial derived from bacterial cellulose, transforming it into a solution for the medical sector. The project aims to enhance the material's absorbency, breathability, and mechanical resistance through the design of a reusable bandage that combines material innovation with sustainability.

The design process begins with hands-on experimentation, investigating the material's behaviour, growth process, and its ability to absorb and gradually release therapeutic liquids. These properties become the foundation for developing a wound care system that extends the effectiveness of ointments and active ingredients, reducing the need for frequent applications while improving user comfort.

The project extends beyond the product itself, incorporating dedicated packaging designed to facilitate use, cleaning, and storage, encouraging the material's long-term reuse.

SCHIN adopts a systemic approach to wound care, where biomaterials research, product design, and sustainability converge into a single integrated solution.
