In Leinì, a rural building confiscated from organized crime is given new life as Open R-House TO MEET A NEED: a social co-housing project addressing housing emergencies and supporting vulnerable individuals and families.
In a context where housing is an increasingly difficult achievement, the project aims to create a bridge between people and the territory.
Translating the concepts of “meet” and “need,” the house offers spaces that foster encounters and respond to community needs: an open courtyard where residents intersect with visitors from outside, enriching the space with ever-evolving human connections.
The project DIMORE R-ESISTENTI, in collaboration with the Municipality of Leinì, explored the recovery of a confiscated property transformed into a co-housing space addressing housing emergencies and social inclusion. The workshop focused on the design of the building’s interior and exterior spaces, with the aim of developing sustainable, inclusive, and wellbeing-oriented housing models. Students, guided by faculty members Christian Villa and Francesco Allasina, were asked to redefine the functional program, with particular attention to enhancing the underground spaces and outdoor areas, within a broader process of urban regeneration and social reuse.
