The Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design at IED Torino uses the concept of living as the interpretative key to contemporary design. Domestic projects become the methodological foundation for approaching, with coherence and sensitivity, public and collective spaces, always aiming to ensure the quality of experiences through close attention to the languages of architecture, material culture and the sensory dimension of living.
The IED programme spans three years, during which design is integrated with cultural knowledge, dialogue with professionals, technical skills and innovative tools.
First Year: Focuses on learning the fundamental tools for understanding and representing space, starting from the relationship between body and environment. Students experiment with freehand drawing, axonometric and perspective representation, volume modelling and proportions. Software introduced includes 2D drawing tools such as AutoCAD, 3D modelling tools such as SketchUp, and post-production software such as Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. The integration of theory, laboratories and materials enables the practical application of knowledge and the ability to manage project complexity.
Second Year: Addresses the central theme of interior design: the home. Students develop complete projects including volumes, furniture, colour, systems and materials. Related fields such as set design, pattern design, landscape design and furnishing materials are explored. Technical skills are expanded with the use of Twinmotion for realistic rendering.
Third Year: Moves on to the design of complex public spaces such as shops, hotels, offices and healthcare facilities, developing functional analysis, aesthetic sensitivity and technical expertise. Students refine their use of previously acquired software and deepen their knowledge of advanced tools such as V-Ray and Rhinoceros.
The thesis represents the synthesis of the programme: a space designed in all its phases with a professional approach, where students work independently on proposed or personalised themes, tackling research and development rigorously. The final project is accompanied by the preparation of a portfolio, a fundamental tool for entering the professional world and for recognising one’s own skills.
