The Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design at IED Cagliari highlights sustainability, local craftsmanship, and independent design. The reuse of materials, manual techniques, and collaborations with traditional Sardinian weaving workshops define a unique training pathway within the Italian landscape, fostering an environment of experimentation where creativity develops autonomously while engaging with the local territory. Workshops on fashion accessories, applied technologies, and product development complete the educational experience, making the course a laboratory of sustainable and innovative ideas.

Course structure and contents:

The programme spans three years, during which design is integrated with cultural knowledge, dialogue with professionals, technical skill development, and the use of innovative tools.

Year One: Students build the theoretical and practical foundations of fashion design, enriched by the study of art and fashion history, anatomical and technical drawing, manual and digital illustration. Learning also focuses on textile culture, basic pattern-making, and the use of professional software such as Adobe Suite and CLO3D for product simulation and representation. Exercises and projects provide a first concrete approach to collection development and the transformation of drawings into garments.

Year Two: Students develop collections aligned with specific targets and oriented towards sustainability. Tailoring and digital techniques are refined, with advanced use of design software, alongside theoretical studies focusing on contemporary trends, visual communication, and cultural dynamics in the sector. Interdisciplinary activities and experimentation with innovative materials enrich design practice, steering it towards a more mature and professional vision.

Year Three: Autonomy in design is consolidated through the complete development of a collection, including production time management, advanced technologies such as laser cutting, 3D printing, and digital design techniques, as well as fashion show simulations. In parallel, branding and communication are explored as essential tools for presenting one’s work. The thesis represents the synthesis of the three-year journey: an individual or group project of a complete collection reflecting the technical, conceptual, and organisational skills acquired, carried out in a context simulating professional reality.
