The Bachelor of Arts in Jewellery and Accessories Design at IED Torino combines artisanal knowledge with technological innovation, extending jewellery design into the world of accessories such as bags, eyewear, footwear, and leather goods. Workshops, field trips, continuous collaborations with companies, producers, and institutions, high-profile professional lecturers, advanced use of 3D software, and a constant focus on sustainability enable students to design objects that engage with the body and contemporary life while anticipating the future.
Deeply connected to Turin – a city of manufacturing excellence and artistic experimentation – the programme stands out for its transversal approach, blending the craftsmanship of goldsmithing, shoemaking, and eyewear with emerging technologies and design culture. It becomes a place of exchange, inspiration, and avant-garde practice. The course reflects the spirit of the city: concrete, technical, creative, rigorous, and passionate in its pursuit of each student’s identity and talent, supporting their professional growth.
The programme spans three years, integrating design with cultural knowledge, dialogue with professionals, technical skill development, and the use of innovative tools.
Year One: Students acquire methodological, cultural, and technical foundations of design, with particular focus on modelling and manual/digital prototyping for jewellery and leather accessories. Workshops develop skills in production processes using metals, leathers, and innovative materials. Introduction to 3D modelling software such as Rhinoceros and practical experience in FabLabs initiate rapid prototyping and immediate prototype creation. Theoretical courses – including design history, anthropology, material technology, and perception theory – provide tools to critically interpret the cultural and production context of the sector.
Year Two: Focuses on design evolution and advanced modelling. Students work on complex jewellery and accessory collections in direct collaboration with prestigious companies. Projects in specific areas – fine jewellery, prêt-à-porter jewellery, eyewear, footwear, bags, and body accessories – allow greater autonomy and awareness, fostering creativity through cross-disciplinary contamination. Digital training expands with tools such as Blender, Keyshot, and other software for product modelling and visual communication. Theoretical subjects strengthen trend analysis and market understanding, while design management introduces strategic management of the creative process.
Year Three: Dedicated to defining the professional profile and developing the thesis project, always in collaboration with leading companies. Students design integrated collections of jewellery, eyewear, bags, and footwear, using advanced technologies such as 3D printing in precious metals and producing renders and visualisations with professional software like Rhino and Keyshot. Prototypes are created in metal, leather, resins, acetates, and alternative materials, with specialisation in rapid prototyping. Theoretical studies include phenomenology of contemporary arts, ethics and sustainability in design, fashion history, and copyright law.
Each year includes numerous field trips to fairs, museums, companies, and tanneries, alongside participation in competitions and continuous engagement with professionals and institutions. These activities consolidate an anthropological research approach while strengthening ties with the professional world, offering concrete career prospects across diverse fields.
The thesis project represents a synthesis of experimentation, creative identity, and technical preparation. Students present to the commission and partner companies their artistic and cultural research underpinning the concept and sources of inspiration, project materials (printed books, technical documentation of extended and integrated collections), and prototypes in resin, metal, stones, or alternative materials, accompanied by a digital presentation to support the narrative.
"I believe that the course in Jewellery and Accessory Design at IED Turin offers a unique opportunity: working on four different product ranges - jewellery, shoes, eyewear, leather accessories. And it does so by touching various points in the production chain."
