Designer Lucas Muñoz, a multiple award winner, received nominations in both the Design Innovation and Interior Design categories. Beatriz Amann, Academic Director of IED Madrid, also participated as a jury member.

The ROOM Awards will take place on June 26 at the Central de Diseño in Matadero Madrid. For the third consecutive year, the event will bring together prominent figures from the design world and offer a unique perspective on creative disciplines. This edition features eight award categories, evaluated by a prestigious international jury composed of Mario Cucinella, Färg & Blanche, CuldeSac, Clap Studio, Juan Mellen, estudi{H}ac, Estudio Albar, and Beatriz Amann, Academic Director of IED Madrid.

Among the nominees is Lucas Muñoz, a graduate in Product Design and holder of a Master’s in Exhibition Design and Management from IED Madrid. He is nominated in the Design Innovation category, whose award is the Niessen Prize. Staying true to his ethos, the nominated project, Pulp, is an example of how polystyrene—a highly polluting material—can be repurposed into a design element. Once again, Lucas Muñoz demonstrates that everything discarded has the potential to become something useful.

He is also nominated in the Interior Design category for COLAB Sancal, a showroom where circularity is taken to the extreme—moving walls instead of demolishing them and placing sustainability at the core of the design process.

This nomination adds to the long list of recognitions and awards Muñoz has received throughout his career. These include the 2021 FRAME Award for Best Use of Material for his project MO de Movimiento, which also earned him the 2021 Dezeen Award for Most Sustainable Interior Design, and the 2024 Seoul Design Award for Sustainability. Other accolades include the 2022 ICON Award for Innovation and the IED Next 30 Design Awards in the Product Design category.
