IED Madrid took part in the 7th edition of Recreo Book Art Fair, held from 23 to 25 October, with GRADA, a collaborative project developed by the school’s Graphic Design students.
GRADA was born out of a collaboration between Recreo Book Art Fair, Carton Lab and IED Madrid. The project was developed through Translab, IED’s interdisciplinary laboratory, where students work on real-world projects and explore new approaches to design.
For this edition of the fair, the students transformed the auditorium, a space used to host conferences and talks by various studios and designers. The proposal is based on a simple idea: seeing recess as an active pause within the fair experience. A moment to switch off, play and share, but also to discover new ways of interacting with the space and the people who inhabit it.
The installation features a series of illustrations linked to different participants in the fair. Using a scanning system, visitors could access content in which exhibitors shared childhood anecdotes and stories related to Recreo. In this way, GRADA extends the conversation beyond the talks, creating new connections between participants and the audience through an approachable and spontaneous experience.
IED Madrid’s participation also included its own stand, where visitors could discover a selection of the school’s publications and explore different projects connected to its creative community.
