What will the jewelry of tomorrow look like? Will it still be merely an ornament, or will it become an extension of the body, an interface, an object capable of embodying new forms of identity and value?
These questions are at the heart of Future Relics -The Jewelry of the Future, the contest promoted by IED Roma in collaboration with Crivelli, an Italian excellence in the world of fine jewelry. The initiative aims to support the talent of young designers while opening up new perspectives on the concept of preciousness.
The competition offers one €5,000 scholarship covering the first year of the Undergraduate course in Jewelry Design at IED Roma, starting in the 2026/2027 academic year and taught in both Italian and English.
The application deadline is 25 June 2026.
Participants are invited to design a piece of jewelry or a micro-collection of up to three pieces exploring jewelry as an extension of the human body. No longer conceived simply as decoration, jewelry becomes an element capable of reshaping self-perception, interacting with movement, experimenting with new ways of being worn, and creating connections between body, technology and environment.
Applicants are encouraged to explore design directions such as aesthetic prosthetics, interfaces between body and technology, innovative materials, and new forms of relationship between the wearer and the precious object. Each proposal must include a narrative concept, visual research, material studies, formal and technical development, sketches, drawings, and a written project statement.
The submissions will be evaluated by a jury composed of IED directors and faculty members, together with a representative or delegate from Crivelli. Projects will be assessed according to their sensitivity to the theme, originality of the proposal, effectiveness of the written concept, and the technical quality of the moodboard. Candidates will also be asked to attend a motivational interview.
Through this initiative, IED Roma and Crivelli invite young creatives to push beyond the traditional boundaries of jewelry, imagining it as a field of research where aesthetics, function, experimentation and design culture converge.
Applications are open until 25 June 2026.
