In Spain, there are over 2.32 million widows, and many of them live alone. 'Nova Aurea *' is a project that reimagines the concept of ageing though a shared living space designed to combat loneliness and foster a sense of community.
The proposal focuses on the idea of shared living units, and introduces four levels of privacy that are integrated strategically throughout the space. The most private level is the bedroom, followed by the semi-private unit, shared with one other resident. The semi-public area consists of the space outside the unit, including shared kitchens, and dining rooms located between units. Last but not least, the public area encompasses the entire building, which includes areas for group activities, workshops, and a large communal garden open to the neighbourhood.
This spatial hierarchy not only allows individuals to enjoy solitude when needed, but also fosters opportunities for meaningful encounters, community building, and intergenerational dialogue through shared everyday experiences
