Creating strong, contemporary visual narratives in fashion, combining culture, technique and creativity within an international and professional environment.

The BA (Hons) Fashion Styling introduces you to the world of fashion image from a broad and contemporary perspective, where visual culture, technique and creativity come together. Over three years, you will work on editorial, commercial, audiovisual and digital projects that allow you to explore how visual narratives in fashion are constructed, from trend research or art direction to fashion film, image consulting or organising photoshoots. The experience combines cultural analysis with constant practice using digital tools, helping you find your own approach as an image creator.

The degree concludes with an official British qualification,  a validation that reinforces its international orientation and broadens your opportunities within the global sector. The academic structure is designed for you to develop a solid understanding of fashion’s visual codes and to experiment with different languages and formats, always from a critical and contemporary standpoint.

Studying in Barcelona, a city with a strong creative tradition and a dynamic fashion ecosystem, and doing so at IED, ranked among the 20 best fashion institutions in the world (CEOWORLD 2025), adds to the experience a professional and cultural environment that is key to boosting your career development.

Information to decide

A programme currently undergoing validation by the University of Westminster and taught at one of the best fashion schools in the world, where you will train in styling from a creative, technical and critical perspective.

The methodology combines lectures, workshops, media labs, tutorials and practical projects.

Learning is structured around styling projects, visual research, teamwork, visits to museums and galleries, and a work placement that brings you closer to professional reality.

Group discussion and independent research are encouraged, as well as the use of tools and technologies specific to the sector.

  • In Level 4 you acquire cultural, technical and methodological foundations: art and fashion history, image creation, fundamentals of styling, image consulting and the relationship between fashion and film.
  • In Level 5 you deepen your knowledge of photography, styling applied to different formats (runway, advertising, ecommerce, installation), dress culture, audiovisual media and social networks, as well as the Work Placement.
  • In the Optional Industry Year Out you can complete a 120-credit Industry Placement, expanding your professional experience.
  • In Level 6 you focus on the thesis, advanced fashion film, fashion business, research and the Final Project, where you synthesise all acquired competencies in a personal project and a professional portfolio.

This programme is for you if:

– You are interested in fashion, image creation and visual languages.
– You want to build a career in an international context.
– You have a competent level of English, as all academic content, communication and submissions are conducted in this language.
– You can provide a portfolio that reflects your visual sensibility and motivation.
– You want to demonstrate and develop your creative skills (photography, drawing, editing, personal image projects).
– You are interested in working with cultural, social and artistic references, and reflecting on identity, representation, sustainability and diversity.

Admission includes submitting a portfolio and an interview with the programme lead to assess your potential and suitability for the programme.

Because it prepares you for a key profession in a context dominated by social media, audiovisual content and digital culture. The BA (Hons) Fashion Styling responds to real industry demand for professionals capable of creating strong visual narratives, understanding fashion’s cultural codes and adapting to new technologies, including artificial intelligence.

Once approved by the University of Westminster, you will be eligible to obtain an official British qualification validated by the University of Westminster, you study entirely in English, and you train at IED Barcelona, one of the 20 best fashion schools in the world according to CEOWORLD 2025. You will work on projects, develop a professional portfolio, and acquire cultural, technical and strategic skills that will enable you to compete in international fashion, image, and communication markets.
