What happens when memory becomes code? IED heads to Bogotá to explore the answer, where design, data and the living archive meet.
During the month of October, the IED team will travel to Colombia together with Mery Glez, Director of the School of Visual Arts at IED Barcelona.
During her visit, Mery Glez will give a series of workshops and lectures with our partners in Colombia. From October 1st to 9th, she will visit several educational institutions in Bogotá and participate as a guest lecturer at Pabellón Uniandes.
The Pabellón Uniandes is an international event based in Bogotá, Colombia, and organized by Universidad de los Andes. The event explores cutting-edge projects and research across creative disciplines. It will be open to anyone interested in design, architecture, art, the humanities and creation. Participants will be able to spend 3 days exploring exhibitions, lectures by national and international experts, presentations, performances and activities that seek to strengthen the creative ecosystem of these disciplines.
“Coding memory: design methodology between binary systems and digital archives” is the name of the lecture that Mery Glez will give, in which she proposes a design methodology that understands memory as a dynamic coding system, capable of translating human experiences into data, digital structures and new forms of representation.
The process starts with a fundamental question: how can we transform the tangible or intangible into information that can be preserved, interpreted and reactivated? The project thus proposes a new relationship between memory, data and design, understanding the archive not as a static repository, but as an active system capable of generating and reconfiguring meanings.

About Mery Glez
Audiovisual Designer and Creative Technologist
Trained in Advertising and Public Relations (UPV University of the Basque Country), with a diploma in Video Design (scholarship recipient at SVA-School of Visual Arts in New York) and a specialization in Digital Fabrication and Electronics FabLab IAAC (MIT program).
She has been working in education for more than 10 years, leading innovative projects that merge technology and art by connecting the physical and digital at OutOfFormat.
Since 2017, she has also collaborated as an expert in Education and Creative Industries for the European Commission. Her interests include new visual narratives, the social impact of digital art and making the invisible visible through different immersive, installation-based and interactive formats, applying emerging technologies such as AR/VR in museums, video games, digital arts, design and fashion.
